Just how cold is it getting in the Midwest? Cold enough that some beer trucks won't be delivering.

At least two distributors will delay or suspend deliveries on Wednesday due to extreme cold.

Rod Fisher, general manager of General Beer Northwest in Chippewa Falls, said he's worried beer will freeze in the trucks, especially on rural routes. His company is delaying and limiting some deliveries in its 14-county area.

Park Ridge Distributing of nearby Eau Claire won't send trucks out at all on Wednesday. Manager Ryan Modl says it's too hard on employees, the beer and the equipment.

  • That is the problem with everything. They try and make it better without realizing the old is fine.

Stock up. Keep the heater going until you have your beer somewhere safe.Buy it in cans. Glass breaks. Cans aren't foolproof, but are more forgiving. If it freezes, make sure it is thoroughly thawed before opening.

Make sure your booze (distilled spirits) has reached nearly room temperature (32 or above).
Grain alcohol can get down to colder than -50 and remain liquid.
I drank Jack Daniels' once with slush in the bottle, and it hurt (-35 outside when the bottle was brought in).
Not a good idea, propane just boils off from liquid at those temperatures.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
