Democrats to block end-of-year judges package

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.), facing pressure from left wing groups, will not agree to a customary year-end package of judicial nominees, according to a Senate Democratic aide.

Schumer and his Democratic colleagues are in no mood to agree to a year-end deal after a federal judge in Texas struck down the entire Affordable Care Act last week, including protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Senate Democrats are also furious at Republicans for not respecting the Senate’s blue-slip tradition, which gives both senators from a judicial nominee’s home state power to hold up his or her nomination.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) advanced judicial nominees this year even though home-state Democratic senators withheld blue slips for those nominees.

Schumer has come under heavy pressure from liberal activists not to agree to such a deal.

I don't think the GOP has the floor votes to do it.  Flake is with the Rats on this.

They failed on obamacare!

They failed on immigration!

Now they are going to fail on judges?

They have actually gotten a lot of judges through.  That stands very much to their credit.

So what? Recess appoint them, then appoint them full-time in January when the GOP has a bigger majority. Problem solved.

Unless I'm missing something, which I will happily admit I didn't see coming, the pubs are not only failing on the big items they campaigned on but are now beginning to fail on second tier items i.e., judges.

Perhaps Republicans should stop lying about being the opposition to Democrats.  For the last 8 years, they have given Democrats everything they wanted, with the exception of two supreme court justices.

Stop whining.   The Senate won't likely confirm any more judges this term because of one man - Jeff Flake.  Once he's gone, the improved GOP Senate majority should be able to confirm the lot.

The GOP has a majority,  but only if they all act together because no Dems will cross the aisle.   One or two dissenters, therefore,  gums up the works.   I fail to see how that can be blamed on Trump or the GOP leadership.   You demand the unreasonable, and assert that the GOP is a "failure" because they cannot attain the unreasonable.  We live in partisan times, where cooperation is impossible, especially on social and other hot button issues.   

The solution is to practice solidarity,  not to engage in insufferable whining.
