The first order of business for the Democratic majority in the House next year is legislation that would require President Trump to release his tax returns.
The bill, which will be announced by Democratic leaders Friday morning, will also push for election financing and voting reforms, among other issues, the Associated Press reported.
Trump is the first president in several decades not to release his tax returns to the public. While it's not a requirement, most candidates have done so as an act of transparency, although Trump has said he won't release them until an ongoing audit is completed. The IRS has said nothing about the audit prevents the release of his returns.
The Democratic bill also seeks to expand voting access by creating a national voter registration system and giving people more access to early online voting. It would also allot more federal money to make state elections more secure, as well as limit money in politics and prevent members of Congress from serving on the board of corporations.
While the bill will likely pass in the House, it's not clear it can pass the Senate, where Republicans will have a 53-47 majority next year.
