  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, expected to be the lone Republican "no" vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, said Friday she plans to vote "present" in his final confirmation vote as a courtesy to Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont.

Doing so will allow Republicans to preserve what is expected to be a two-vote margin to confirm Kavanaugh.

"This will not change the outcome," said Murkowski.

Daines, a longtime Kavanaugh supporter, announced Thursday that he could end up missing the vote the Senate will have this weekend for his daughter's Saturday wedding in Montana. He said he would be headed back after the wedding for the vote, which he at the time said could be held open until late Saturday or early morning Sunday for his return to Washington.

Good for her.  Tester should have been the one doing this, but he is too full of Democrat spite to recognize it.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

Nah - she won't go back on not voting.  There's no point in that kind of gamesmanship because Mitch could just hold the vote open, or simply hold the vote again. She'd accomplish nothing other than personally alienating Collins and other Senators.

No.  Anything less than 51 votes will be declared illegal by the Rats, the press will lap it up, and Kav will be impeached the first chance the rats get.  Enough Pubbies in the Senate could collapse to the pressure by the media and he'll be out.

If we need to get Daines to get the 51 votes, a Representative has offered the use of a plane to get him to DeeCee.

We won't get less than 51 votes. With Manchin it's at least 51. If we didn't get Manchin, murkowski, flake, or collins, then it would have been only 49.

She is voting present so we have a quorum.

If she does that, then the threshold for confirmation is legally 50 votes,  When was the last time a Rat cared about what's legal?  Mark my words, if Kav gets anything less than 51 votes he'll be hounded off the court by the Rats and their willing accomplices in the press.

No, Daines needs to avail himself of the offer of a ride on a private jet to get to DeeCee, and McConnell needs to keep the vote open until he gets there.  No trickery of the kind Murky offers.

I'm trying to be charitable, @Emjay.  It's very difficult in this case.

There's no such thing as "hounding off the court."  He's confirmed, legally, and that's it.  They can whine and cry all they like, and claim that he's illegitimate, but their bogus claims don't matter.  Kavanaugh himself has demonstrated rather conclusively that he is not the kind of guy to let a bunch of shrill harridans chase him away.

Frankly, if they want to try to make noise that he's somehow illegitimate despite getting a majority of votes in the Senate, they'll just be further discrediting themselves.  And that works to our advantage.

The left is breaking new ground here.  "Hounding" may well happen.

That is the reason she will not vote no.

Mitch told her that she would no longer be chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, which gives her stature among Alaskans who depend upon oil and gas and benefit from her chairing that committee.

Isn't it disappointing and extremely telling that only 5 of the 23 women US Senators will be voting to confirm this Supreme Court Justice?

My point exactly.

@Maj. Bill Martin, you are underestimating the power of the mob, aided by a willing press.

They just fired all their "hounding" ammo, and the result was Kavanaugh tearing them a new one in his testimony.  It backfired, and its going to keep backfiring if they make such a ridiculous argument against him.

Did you somehow think that leftist Senators would vote to confirm Kavanaugh?
