Oops! Alleged Russian spy Maria Butina met with Obama officials in 2015
By Thomas Lifson

Desperate Trump-haters, searching for something  -- anything! – to show that the Trump administration is in bed with Vladimir Putin, seized on the news a week ago that a young Russian names Maria Butina had been indicted for violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), or, in the words of the DOJ, for “ conspiracy to act as an agent of the Russian Federation within the United States without prior notification to the Attorney General.”

  • All deserve a trial if accused
And they won't even let her walk out of jail and her big offense is not registering as a Russian agent.

The next scandal may be of some Russian playing at the local chess club.... it's hard to see Butina as being anything but very small potatoes, maybe she did wrong but it seems pretty mild.

Butina was already on a federal watchlist, FBI insiders said, which means Holder’s Justice Department — and likely Holder himself — would have had to green light Butina’s visa from Russia for entry into the United States.  ...

Exclusive: Alleged Russian agent Butina met with U.S. Treasury, Fed officials
Sarah N. Lynch

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Maria Butina, accused in the United States of spying for Russia, had wider high-level contacts in Washington than previously known, taking part in 2015 meetings between a visiting Russian official and two senior U.S. officials.

Butina traveled to the United States in April 2015 with Alexander Torshin, then the Russian Central Bank deputy governor, and they took part in separate meetings with Fischer and Sheets to discuss U.S.-Russian economic relations during Democratic former President Barack Obama’s administration.   ...
