Austin going beyond Sanctuary City status

Jazz ShawPosted at 9:21 am on June 20, 2018

At the state level, Texas has been fairly reliable in terms of cooperation between immigration enforcement and state or local police. The passage of SB4 went a long way in ensuring that ICE would have the traditional levels of cooperation from police when it comes to identifying and detaining illegal aliens who wind up being arrested for other crimes. But the Lone Star State isn’t homogeneous in that regard, with pockets of resistance popping up here and there. One of those places is Austin, which this month decided that simply being a sanctuary city wasn’t good enough for them. No, they’re now declaring themselves to be a “freedom city.”

There are very few Austinites living in Austin now.  It's a sad place.

The city council is trying to make Austin another version of San Francisco. They are driving out normal citizens with taxes, crime, and sky high rent. Soon, the only people 'living' in Austin proper will be uber millionaires, criminals, and homeless people. That seems to be what the city wants for some demented reason.

President Of Austin Police Association Gives His Take On New ‘Freedom City’ Policy

Ken Casaday says freedom city rules are bad policy.

https://www.texasstandard.org/stories/president-of-austin-police-association-gives-his-take-on-new-freedom-city-policy/

Casaday says taking away officers discretion to make arrests is bad policy and that the city council is “race baiting.”

He states that there is a long history of racism in law enforcement. But Casaday also explains that the situation is improving. “We’ve made great strides, the justice department has been to our department twice in the last 15 years,” he says. “We’re a model agency that they use.” He says that being called a racist is a “hard pill to swallow.”

Casaday explains other reasons people go to jail for misdemeanors. If the driver is caught without an ID, intoxicated or has previous warrants, the policy states they have to be taken to jail.

“We’re all about releasing people and emptying the jails of people who probably should not be there for misdemeanor offenses. But it has to be the right offenses,” the detective says. He points out that driving with a suspended license is one of those offenses.

We have a nephew about 30, that recently moved there from Flagstaff,  for a job, and he is a foolish 30 year old liberal.

Certainly the governor of Texas, and the Texas state legislature should have something to say about this...?

Or.... no.....?

Gov. Abbott: Austin stinks and so does 'Sanctuary Sally'

https://www.statesman.com/news/state--regional-govt--politics/gov-abbott-austin-stinks-and-does-sanctuary-sally/goq6JEihda4PzADg2lOMgO/

From the way Gov. Abbott talked about Austin Monday night, you might think he doesn’t like it here.

“As I was coming up here from Austin, Texas, tonight, I got to tell you, it’s great to be out of the People’s Republic of Austin,” Abbott told the Bell County Republican Party Dinner at the Bell County Expo Center, just under 60 miles up the road from Austin in Belton.

“As you leave Austin and start heading north, you start feeling different,” Abbott told the appreciative audience. “Once you cross the Travis County line, it starts smelling different. And you know what that fragrance is? Freedom. It’s the smell of freedom that does not exist in Austin, Texas.”

This is an "Off Year" for the Texas Legislature.

And, then there's Flag.  Not as far gone as Austin, but give it time.

It seems to me there are these whacked out enclaves all across the country trying to out-weird each other. Portland, Austin, Ashville all come to mind.

Maybe we should start with simply building a wall around Austin.   They can let in all the illegals they want (to support).

My avatar shows the national debt in stacks of $100 bills.  If you look very closely under the crane you can see the Statue of Liberty.
