A top official with the National Rifle Association's lobbying arm (NRA-ILA) said Thursday following an Oval Office meeting with President Trump and Vice President Pence that the pair "don't want gun control."

In a tweet, NRA-ILA executive director Chris Cox also defended Trump as supporting "strong due process" a day after the president raised eyebrows among gun rights advocates with his call to "take the guns first, go through due process second."

"I had a great meeting tonight with @realDonaldTrump & @VP. We all want safe schools, mental health reform and to keep guns away from dangerous people. POTUS & VPOTUS support the Second Amendment, support strong due process and don’t want gun control," Cox tweeted Thursday night.

Would be nice if Trump is on camera or on the record saying that and not just Chris Cox from the NRA.

Trump has diarea of the mouth, and the same problem with his Twitter thumbs. He speaks before he thinks. Or at least I hope so. It would trouble me terribly if he actually believes some of the stuff that came out of his pie hole.

Well, it's not like he didn't warn us two years ago.

“We started off … 17 people. Now we’re down to not very many people,” he said. “And once you get to a certain level, it changes. I will be changing very rapidly.”

“I’m very capable of changing to anything I want to change to,” the real estate mogul said.

At this point I don't think it matters.   He's burned a bridge with people who have trust issues.

The only real issue is how do we limit the damage for the next 3 years.   I think with that one statement he killed his plans for a 2nd term.

We should also note how many in Congress/GOP were on board with the plans for a new AWB and anything else they can think up.

Not so sure about this causing any real damage among his base. Just peak over at TOS and you won't even find this subject in the active threads.

Maybe they're not upset over there because they're just liberals who are supporting a liberal doing what liberals do.......  :pondering:
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

TOS has become more boring than the West Coast Conference, now that Gonzaga is mulling a transfer to the Mountain West conference. That bit of news injected a bit more intrigue into this year's conference championship tournament.
