A Web of Sensors May Uncover Secrets of the Deep Oceans
The marine science community has been seeking new ways of collecting more data about the ocean, which still largely remains a mystery. A new project by DARPA calls for smart floats to collect data across a wide span, creating an "Ocean of Things."
The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking proposals for “intelligent floats†with an ambitious goal: wire the world’s oceans with a network of sensors, capable of recording vast amounts of data about the environment that takes up 71 percent of our planet.
