ESPN President John Skipper resigns citing substance abuse issue
« on: December 18, 2017, 04:55:23 pm »
ESPN President John Skipper announced Monday he is resigning from the network due to a substance addiction problem.

"I have struggled for many years with a substance addiction. I have decided that the most important thing I can do right now is to take care of my problem," Skipper said in a statement.

Skipper said he and the company have "mutually agreed" it was appropriate for him to resign.

"I come to this public disclosure with embarrassment, trepidation and a feeling of having let others I care about down," Skipper's statement continued. "As I deal with this issue and what it means to me and my family, I ask for appropriate privacy and a little understanding."

Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger announced former ESPN President George Bodenheimer will serve as Acting Chair of ESPN for the next 90 days until they find a full time replacement for Skipper.

John Skipper, president of Walt Disney Co.’s DIS -0.13% ESPN and co-chairman of its Disney Media Networks unit, has resigned, citing substance-abuse issues, the network said Monday.

ESPN said George Bodenheimer, Mr. Skipper’s predecessor as head of ESPN, would return to the company as acting chairman for three months while a search for a permanent successor is competed.

“I have struggled for many years with a substance addiction. I have decided that the most important thing I can do right now is to take care of my problem,” Mr. Skipper said in a statement. “I have disclosed that decision to the company, and we mutually agreed that it was appropriate that I resign.”   ... This timing is very strange. ESPN just announced a multi-year extension for John Skipper last month. There are execs dropping like crazy for inappropriate behavior. Bigger story coming? I’d bet so.

ESPN has more sexual assault findings thrown at them then John Skipper steps down for substance abuse. Not buying it, more bad news likely coming from @ESPN

FACTS: Addictive substances are ALSO mind-altering. In other words, one is not of sound mind.

Things they manage, are managed by somebody not equipped to make good judgments.

Subordinates, customers and investors, are poorly served. Owner Disney was poorly served.

The fact he could go on and on, means those around him were unable or unwilling to deal with his problems.

Just how much of the in-house ESPN paradigm, BLM, racism, liberalism, etc. derived from such bad judgments remains to be seen.
