Kentucky Rep. Dan Johnson won't resign, says sexual abuse allegations are politically motivated

A Kentucky lawmaker accused of sexually abusing a teenager said Tuesday that he would not resign from office and that the allegations are false and politically motivated.

"This allegation concerning this lady, this young girl, absolutely has no merit, these are unfounded accusations, totally," state Rep. Dan Johnson, R-Mount Washington, said at a press conference at his church attended by family, campaign volunteers and members of his congregation.

Johnson, a self-anointed "pope" of his congregation, is accused of sexually abusing a member of Heart of Fire Church in the Fern Creek area when she was 17.

The woman, who is now 21, alleges Johnson molested her after a New Year’s party in 2012, according to a wide-ranging report on Johnson published Monday by the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Rep. Dan Johnson, who was under investigation for alleged sexual molestation, has committed suicide.

Bullitt County Sheriff Donnie Tinnell said Johnson shot himself on a bridge on Greenwell Ford Road in Mt. Washington, and the gun was recovered.

Just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, Johnson posted the following message on his Facebook page:

“The accusations from NPR are false GOD and only GOD knows the truth, nothing is the way they make it out to be. AMERICA will not survive this type of judge and jury fake news . He loved God and his wife so much he committed suicide and left her a widow. Innocent men don't commit suicide when they get caught. Seems to me his suicide was an admission of his guilt. God does know the truth and I guess God will be the final judge now. I wouldn't want to be him.

He resigned from life. He took the easy way out. That would seem to be a pretty strong admission of guilt. Even worse, he called the person he abused a liar publicly. That furthers the wronging of the person he abused. That isn't honest or remorseful.

Au contraire. The guy has a history and it's not at all flattering. A con artist, habitual liar and a criminal. Lost all sympathy for his wife now as well. She is taking over in his absence and carrying on. People should find out who they are jumping on the bandwagon to defend.
