Cutting taxes is hard. Trump is making it harder
« on: October 24, 2017, 03:09:30 pm »
President Donald Trump said Monday that he would oppose any effort to reduce the amount of pretax income that American workers can save in 401(k) retirement accounts, effectively killing an idea Republicans were mulling as a way to help pay for a $1.5 trillion tax cut.

The directive, issued via Twitter, underscored a growing fear among Republicans and business lobbyists that Trump’s bully-pulpit whims could undermine the party’s best chance to pass the most sweeping rewrite of the tax code in decades.

Congress better leave the 401(k) deferral maximum the hell alone!  Or are they begging us to storm the capital with torches and pitchforks?

Do you think that would happen?  I have some serious doubts.

It's going to happen at some point.  Whether that is the trigger or something else.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

The gates were stormed for Obamacare and the filthy dirty bastards jammed it through anyway. They don't care.

Yep.  It'll be SSDD, and the RoosGirls of the world will say "That's what you get for voting for the lesser evil."  But isn't that a tired old conversation that has been hashed out over and over again?

How about a tax code that allows you to work and save as much as you like without ANY penalties what-so-ever?

The way to 'pay' for a tax cut is to reduce spending. If all the congressional Republicans will do is rearrange the deck chairs on the SS Tyrannic then this is but a side issue.

That is a valid rebuttal if you first explain what we would have gotten from voting for the greater evil,  and how that would have been better than this.

It's a tired old trope that  some people never seem to get tired of repeating,  even though it wasn't valid the first time it was said.

Actually, it is, if you don't stay there.

The frying pan is what has given us this impotent revolution and flaccid representation.

How do you like it now?

Fair/flat tax. yeah.

No form of income tax will allow you to work and save all you want without penalty.  Taxes on the put in end rather than the take out end!

Right! I am all for a retail only flat tax, omitting food and medical.
