NFL Sponsors Starting to Push Back Over Anthem Protests
« on: September 27, 2017, 01:15:45 pm »
by Warner Todd Huston26 Sep 2017

One sector in the NFL has been fairly quiet over the constant protests during the playing of the national anthem. However, a few NFL advertisers and sponsors are beginning to make their opinions known. Moreover, some are finding customers telling them what their opinions are.

On the one hand, Ford Motor Co., Nike, Under Armour Inc., Hyundai Motor Co., Anheuser-Busch InBev SA and several others issued statements in support of the players’ “right” to protest against the country during the anthem. However, trying to have it both ways, many of these companies also reaffirmed their own support of the flag, the country, and their patriotism, Bloomberg wrote.

Many of the statements mention the American tradition of individual rights, but they also said that they support flag and country.

Papa Johns also had a mamby pamby statement.   Think I'll tell my local franchise I'll get my pizza elsewhere in the future.

You should be getting your pizza elsewhere just for the fact that Papa John's pizza sucks.

That has been my stand on PJ's for years, over a decade in fact.  Their pizza sucks dogs running.

The NFL must live in a real bubble if they didn't see this coming. I guess, they have a similar mindset to ESPN.

Yep.  Makes you wonder how they do it.  Are they really that insulated/isolated?

Have you watched the half-time shows at the Super Bowls the past several years?

That is who the NFL is catering to.

The last few were Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Beyonce again.

Throw in the last with the BLM support, and you have a mirror image of the NFL's perfect fan base.

Yes, they are insulated.

Yes, I'll abandon the NFL in total too; this has been so offensive.

As for the half-time stars at the Superbowl, they tend to get the biggest names in contemporary music. Lady Gaga, etc.

I see Bruce Arena has chimed in on this, well, I'll kick out the MLS too, if this come into the picture.

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/soccer/national-anthem-protests-major-league-soccer-bruce-arena-national-team-20170927.html

Depressing in that, he is saying it is not acceptable for the National team. At least, that's good.

"Arena: Well, you know, I think that demonstrations by the players are appropriate. I can’t question that. I don’t want to get into a political debate here. The national team is different. You don’t have to play in the national team. You can choose not to play. Those guys are professionals in their club teams. That’s their jobs. They have to be there. Our guys don’t have to be. We have a policy, U.S. Soccer, that our players respect the national anthem. I don’t know exactly what it is. You [he points to a U.S. Soccer spokesman] might be able to state that. Is that a written policy? An agreed policy?"

I haven't either, precisely because they did not cater to my interests.

It used to be good, then one day *poof!*!  The cheese started tasting like Domino's, which by then I had also stopped buying for the same reason.  Recently I read that Domino's, PJ's and Pizza Hut all started using the same cheese supplier, so I now know what happened.  I just go for local Mom and Pom pizza places now.

When does Taylor Swift perform there. She is and has been for some time the number 1 pop music personality.

Whites may or may not be a 'minority' in 2030, but the real interest 'should be' who watches football, and more than that, who spends money.

All the Latino people I know watch international soccer. Black people watch the NFL, but many do not spend money on what the advertisers want.

If sports, (ESPN, NFL, NBA) is trying to go with the anti-American, anti-Christian, Hollywood culture, it will fail. Their audience will not tolerate it. Hollywood is full of bleep and anti-American weirdos, we all know that. Sports, on the other hand, is a completely different animal.

I wonder how many of these sport-star millionaires will be working at Walmart in a few years? They, the NFL, the owners, and the players, are shooting themselves in the head.

The true test has yet to come as we have to date just indicators of distrust with the decrease in ticket sales, jerseys, etc.

The networks have committed its contracts for several years. Unless they have an escape clause for unproper behavior, the NFL continues getting that money.

Season ticket holders are the same thing.  Already paid.  Wait until renewals come up next year.  Especially the corporations and skyboxes.

The networks will sue the NFL for damages long before those contracts expire. After all, it is the NFL that started the problem.

If the fan boycotts get bad enough, it might be better for the advertisers to pull the ads and pay off the contracts anyway.

That depends upon what is contained in the contracts.  Must be some type of escape clause if the NFL has not lived up to its commitment to deliver.

There has already been exchanges of money.  The networks have been paying refunds to advertisers because of the lower-than-expected ratings.
