Hurricane Harvey causes gas panic

Hurricane Harvey may be battering the coast over 450 miles south, but the residents of Texoma and the Dallas area are feeling some of the effects. Harvey blew through the southern part of Texas, shutting down nearly a quarter of refinery capacity. Hearing this news has caused a state-wide panic for fuel.

Hundreds of gas stations from Dallas up to Van Alstyne are out of fuel due to people rushing out to buy gas before the “shortage.” Dallas alone is feeling the wrath of the fuel shortage panic, but it has reached all the way up to the northern cities, too. The 7-11 off of White St. in Anna said they were completely out of fuel in a phone interview. Even the Shell stations in Van Alstyne’s pumps have been bled dry.

On a positive note, it seems as if the Sherman stations have been unaffected, so far. The Circle K station on the corner of FM 1417 and Hwy 75 currently still had few several days into the panic.

Additionally, not all of the stations in Dallas are out of fuel, though some of the stations are hiking up the price of fuel. A Shell station off of Addison Rd. in Addison raised the gas to over $4 per gallon. A representative of the store was not available for comment.

Representatives of fuel distributors are asking for the people to calm down, saying that ironically, the people panicking about the fuel shortage are actually the ones causing it....

First Corpus Christi refinery back online amid Texas gasoline panic
http://www.chron.com/business/energy/article/First-Corpus-Christi-refinery-back-online-as-ramp-12172043.php

Valero Energy on Labor Day brought online its Corpus Christi refinery, the first of the refineries shuttered from Hurricane Harvey to return to full operations. Several others are in the process of starting back up.

The historic storm triggered an ongoing gasoline panic in Texas and beyond amid fuel shortages and price spikes. Dallas-area fuel prices are up almost 70 cents a gallon on average, while San Antonio is asking people to carpool or work from home until more fuel supplies arrive in the days ahead.

Hurricane Harvey knocked out more than 20 percent of the nation's refining capacity, and fuel distribution issues have kept many stations from maintaining their supplies in the short term. Public panic and gasoline hoarding exacerbated the shortage issues, creating long lines and isolated instances of fights at pumps. Close to half of all Dallas, San Antonio and Austin area gas stations are out of fuel for now, according to GasBuddy's activity tracker....

North Texas fuel frustrations ease as gas stations fuel up

Less than a week after a gas shortage scare in Texas, the fear has eased as more stations are getting gas.

It's still a hit and miss while driving around the metroplex on Monday. Not every station has gas and those that do may not be at full capacity.

But the traffic at local gas stations is a much different story compared to last Thursday and Friday when people were waiting in lines. Some people waited more than an hour to get gas....

There is no fuel in Bandera County where I live. Idiots loaded up dozens of gas cans in addition to their vehicles. I haven't bought gas since before Harvey hit and I hope the panic will subside soon. I'd have a 50 mile round trip to get gas in Kerrville-that is, if the people have recovered their senses.

I'm seeing price drop in the Houston area.  I just bought 87 octane at $2.09.

There is a reason that North Dallas cannot find gasoline at most stores and southern Dallas is mostly all stocked.  It isn't a supply issue at this point.

This gas shortage in San Antonio, Bandera and Kerrville is making me wonder about the average IQ in the area. I may venture out after checking the gas buddy tracker. I only have a couple of shots before I'm empty.
