He did a FANTASTIC job at the hearings. In fact he did his job so well it was obvious what had to take place next and that was Congressional leadership to press for an independent prosecutor. However with the feckless leadership in the GOP there was no way Gowdy would get further than making an obvious case.
The problem with many who cast opinion on Gowdy with respect to the investigation is they feel he was able to investigate, indict, prosecute, try, act as jury, cast the decision, sentence and execute. Gowdy has one job and that was to question and make a case. He did that. It was then for others under the Constitution to push it further.
Some conservatives have this warped vision as to the powers under congress critters and fantasize that he is Judge Dredd
