Conservative groups open to new Obamacare repeal push
Politico, Apr 21, 2017, Josh Dawsey  and Rachael Bade

Deep-pocketed conservative groups that helped fuel the downfall of the House GOP’s Obamacare alternative are now quietly signaling they won’t oppose the White House’s renewed push to pass the bill.

Some of the most influential — and usually loudest — groups have privately told conservatives they want to see a deal go through, according to several people familiar with the conversations.

Two large and influential groups backed by the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch have signaled to Freedom Caucus members that they hope to be able to support the bill and want to see the tide turned after an embarrassment for the Republican Party.

While The Heritage Foundation hasn’t taken a position, its president, Jim DeMint, has told House members he would be more open to compromise this time around — so long as the compromise looks like ideas floated to conservatives over the past few days. The Club for Growth has also stepped in, running ads attacking moderates who might oppose a new White House deal.

The shift marks a sea change for President Donald Trump and Republican leaders, who had to contend with the same outside groups calling the earlier bill “Obamacare lite” — a label that made it all but impossible for the most conservative House members, many of whom campaigned on Obamacare repeal, to support a deal.

Leaders of these groups now say they’re willing to go along with a potential agreement struck by the White House, Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Tuesday Group co-chairman Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.), so long as the legislative text reflects ideas offered to them by the White House. The changes include waivers for states that wish to opt out of major Obamacare regulations. Those promises appear to be on the brink of winning over some of the most vocal opponents of the previous bill.

"We are encouraged by continuing discussions to repeal Obamacare and replace it with common-sense solutions," said DeMint.

Legislative text was still being finalized on Friday afternoon. Meadows has privately told people he expects to reach a deal on which most of the House Freedom Caucus can vote yes.

Thirty pieces of silver.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Looks like obummercare is here to stay, in one form or another, Just as a few doomsayers here predicted years ago, we made jokes about their tin foil being wrapped to tight, then.

It doesn't matter how they "improve" it, or what kind of "compromise" is implemented, as long as the underlying premise for ACA remains in place, governmental control over what should be a private decision, it's just a matter of time before succeeding administrations bring it back bigger and better than ever, from the statist's POV.

I seem to recall back during the Presidential campaign one candidate who detailed the evils of Obamacare and pledged to get the government out of the health insurance market.  I seem to recall a second candidate who declared that he liked the Obamacare mandates.

Guess which of these two we ended up with.

Now that the Rats have become the part of the radical left it looks like the Pubs are becoming the new "blue dog democrats". The Pubs are embracing govt oversight and control over our lives while promoting a strong military. As for me I remain a liberty loving, God fearing, conservative. I'm sure the Pubs will find all the support they need from blue collar Rat crossover voters.

Sen. Cruz would have been so much better on policy because he actually has conservative core principals. I'm not so sure he would have beat hillary. Pres. Trump did electrify the "forgotten man". The shame of it is we see Pres. Trump abandoning the promises he made while campaigning and bending to the will of establishment politicians. I had hoped he would actually lead the establishment by his mandate and demand his promises be kept.

It doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Or George Pataki for that matter, especially if a certain unnamed individual wasn't slandering all with rumour and innuendo.

If conservative groups are okay with this new plan, I suggest we support it.

Otherwise, we have no change at all to Obamacare.

This will be a start unless purists defeat it.  (I hate purists)

The last proposal was defeated by "centrists". The only purists I know are Trump cultists, and the thing that pure is the BS.

I only support full repeal.

Why is it after 7 long years of being promised that they would fully repeal obamacare I am supposed to settle for only a lttle bit of repeal? obamacare has always been a deal breaker for me. First the Pubs exempt themselves from it because it would be too expensive for their staffs, never mind how it decimated my family and the people who used to work for me. Now after thousands of dollars in donations and fighting to get a majority in the House, Senate and the Presidency I'm supposed to settle?

Failing to repeal obamacare is the greatest reneging of a promise in my lifetime.

Why does the media continually refer to these bills as "repeal?"

If the bill doest say "repeal," it isn't a repeal.

I agree with you.  I was simply suggesting that maybe this first step would be better than nothing.
