So guess what? In the last weeks before the election, the Hillary Clinton campaign did no polling. No. Polling. Whatsoever. Oh, it had data. Lots and lots of data. Analytics, even. Data analytics! But it had no independent information on the overall field of battle in states like Florida, Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

So when the election began to turn Donald Trump’s way, the Clinton campaign had no idea.

It was her time. The Dem threw he up like the ERA amendment. Doomed to fail and  not needed and way past her expiration date to ratify.

I always got a kick out of Pat Paulsen.  His unspoken punchline was that politics are a joke.

Thomas Dewey was an unlikable character who didn't care much for people.  Polls showed him leading Truman by a such huge margin so he never really bothered to campaign.  Like Truman he did a "whistle stop" tour as sort of an obligatory function of running for office, but it wasn't much of a tour.  He was going through the motions. Most stops didn't even concern Dewey enough to get up out of his seat and make a speech.  Sometimes he couldn't even be bothered to raise the window shade to wave at the little people.

Meanwhile Truman crisscrossed the country on a non-stop tour that left his assistants nearly dead from exhaustion.  Making up to a dozen speeches a day no one could understand where he got the energy.  Truman loved people and nothing energized him more than to mix it up with the common man.

My favorite comedian when I was young.  I was blessed to have an opportunity to drive him around Phoenix once, and we got to talk for a couple of hours.  A truly funny man who lived his talent.  I've never seen such a natural at it.  This was during the age of Andrew Dice Clay, I asked him about the challenge of doing the Smothers Brothers G-rated programs, and he told me that if you can't keep your routine G-rated you have no talent.  It was a sign of pride for him.  Then I asked him if he had any advice for newbies getting a start, and he said, "(Eff) 'em!  Pay their dues."
