Assad regime bombed Damascus water supply, turned Syria into a ‘torture chamber’ — UN officials

GENEVA, Switzerland: The Assad regime came under fire from two UN bodies on Tuesday, one of which accused Syria’s air force of deliberately bombing water sources in December and another saying Syria has become a “torture chamber.”

In a report, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria said that the deliberate act of bombing water sources, which cut off water for 5.5 million people in and around the Syria’s capital Damascus, amounted to a “war crime”.

The commission said it had found no evidence of deliberate contamination of the water supply or demolition by armed groups, as the Syrian government maintained at the time.

This is Saudi media, however, it will be interesting to see if what the story says is still true. Probably.  I'll update if more is found.

NONE of "the sides" there really are worthy of "winning".

The only reason to support the Assad regime, is that the alternatives are far worse.

What Turkey has been in the Syrian war is what Syria was in the Iraq war is one analysis of that situation.

The Bible says Damascus will be destroyed and no one will live there again.  I used to think that meant a nuclear bomb would destroy it but maybe, since the water supply has been destroyed, and more bombs dropped as Assad is doing, there won't be a way to live there.

Russian propaganda, I'm not going to support a regime that helped kill 250 Marines per daddy Assad in the early '80s, that helped kill US and coalition soldiers during the Iraq invasion under George Bush.

There will never be anything near peace as long as the Assads are in power. The Russians want to keep their influence but they themselves might insist Assad leave office.

There are no good sides in Syria

There are lesser evils, and that's not ISIS or Assad.

@Right_in_Virginia

I'm not going to support someone that has helped kill Americans, meaning Assad.

I'm glad Tillerson and Trump have not followed the line about "everyone's terrorist, support Assad" nonsense.

I support the sentiment @TomSea --- what's your alternative?
