Trump's joint session speech to feature anecdotes from listening sessions
Washington Examiner, Feb 27, 2017, Gabby Morrongiello

President Trump is expected to weave anecdotes from dozens of listening sessions with industry leaders and American workers into his first address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night.

"A lot of what went into this came from the sit-downs and listening sessions that President Trump has done with healthcare industry leaders, law enforcement officials, union representatives and coal miners," a senior White House official told reporters Monday night in reference to the president's upcoming speech.

The official said Trump is still working with his team to put finishing touches on the major speech which will focus renewing "the American spirit" and providing "an optimistic vision for real Americans."

"Americans have been waiting for help from their leaders for too long and during his speech the president will let them know that help is on the way," the official said.

Trump is expected to spend the first part of his speech recounting what he has accomplished during his first few weeks in office and reiterating the promises he made to supporters during his campaign.

"The president will go through a list of those items that he has either done through executive orders or other memorandum that he's put forward," the official said, citing Trump's executive order to pull out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership and his negotiations with major U.S. companies as examples.

In the days since he entered the Oval Office, Trump has held separate listening sessions with small business owners, women entrepreneurs, coal miners, manufacturing executives and airline CEOs, among other groups.
