For the first time in its history, the newspaper will run a 30-second commercial during Sunday night’s Oscars telecast titled “The Truth is Hard.”

He's lying. Print subscriptions are down 6% for daily and 5% for Sunday. This is after years of massive declines, some of which were as much a 37% over a 3 year period. This guy can brag that some more people are getting their on line service but it doesn't come close to recapturing all of the losses from the previous years.

As of today the Times has a paltry 1.6 million digital subscribers and about 13% of that is foreign.

That was my first thought too. How could this jagoff possibly know that Trump is 'furious'? My guess is that Trump is laughing at them. He is more than likely complemented that the NYT feels it necessary to respond to his jibes.
