Trump traumatizes Democrats

Donald Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States about a month ago, and he has already done two things that suggest he will bring energy and vigor to the presidency. First, he stepped in to keep a campaign promise and negotiate a deal with Carrier to keep jobs in the United States instead of moving them to Mexico. Second, he arranged to accept a phone call from Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen. Can you imagine Hillary Clinton doing either of those things? No way.

And look at how liberals have reacted. No less than Lawrence Summers wrote an op-ed for The Post arguing that Trump’s actions on Carrier “could permanently damage American capitalism.” Really? Damage capitalism? Perhaps that’s a touch of hyperbole arising from the Democrats’ trauma. What has caused more damage to capitalism: Trump negotiating a quick deal to save 1,000 real jobs out in the hinterlands, or the corrosive effect of the anti-capitalist Obama presidency?

It doesn't justify Trumps cronyism that Obama and the democrats engaged in cronyism for the past eight years.  Cronyism is wrong no matter which party does it.  That's a basic fact the Trumpists have simply refused to accept.

Agreed.

A far better solution to the problem of domestic job loss is to reduce taxes, fees, regulations, legal expenses and barriers to entry for all American companies.

I suspect not.  But there is a difference between giving a company that is able to support itself with its own revenues a tax break, and handing out actual grants/low cost loans to a company that cannot.

That distinction -- that a tax cut is not the same as a government handout -- is one conservatives traditionally make, and liberals typically ignore.

It seems Trump is also traumatizing those who have called themselves conservative Republicans for years. Once the euphoria of their side winning passes they might start listening to this guy and thinking "say what"..
