Championship-bound Brazilian soccer team nearly wiped out as charter plane crashes in Colombia
By Fred Barbash, Samantha Schmidt and Dom Phillips November 29 at 5:48 AM

This is a breaking story and will be regularly updated.

A charter plane carrying 81 people, including players from a rising Brazilian soccer team headed for a championship match, crashed en route to Medellín ‘s airport in Colombia Monday night, according to authorities. Six passengers survived and the rest were killed, Colombia’s aviation authority confirmed Tuesday morning. It was uncertain whether that was a final count, however, as the figures had fluctuated during the night.

General José Acevedo, commander of Medellín police, told a Colombian radio station that 75 people had been killed at the site of the crash and six others had been injured and rescued from the scene. One of the rescued passengers died on the way to the hospital, Acevedo said.

Medellín’s mayor, Federico Gutierrez, called it “a tragedy of huge proportions.”

Brazil Chapecoense football team in Colombia plane crash
« Reply #1 on: November 29, 2016, 11:53:43 am »
A plane carrying 81 people, including a top Brazilian football team, has crashed on its approach to the city of Medellin in Colombia.

Police say five people survived the crash but the rest of those on board died.

The chartered aircraft, flying from Brazil via Bolivia, was carrying members of the Chapecoense team.

The team was due to play in the final of the Copa Sudamericana, against Medellin team Atletico Nacional.

The first leg of the final of the cup, South America's second most important club competition, was scheduled for Wednesday, but has now been suspended.

The match was seen as the biggest in the history of the relatively small club, which entered Brazil's top division for the first time in 2014.

Things can be so hard in Latin America; they switched planes but not only that, they are saying the plane ran out of fuel; that is amazingly hard to fathom and tragic, possible electric problems too.

No evidence of fire at the scene. Most likely very little to no fuel left. Fire isn't completely inevitable even with fuel all over, but far more likely.
Prayers up for all affected. That's rough.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
