Two presidential electors encourage colleagues to sideline Trump

'This is a longshot. It’s a hail Mary,' one Washington State elector says.

Two Democratic members of the Electoral College have launched a radical last-ditch attempt to stop Donald Trump from winning the presidency.

Bret Chiafolo, a Washington State elector who has already declared his opposition to Hillary Clinton, and Micheal Baca of Colorado have launched what they’ve dubbed “Moral Electors,” an attempt to persuade 37 of their Republican colleagues to bail on Trump — just enough to block Trump’s election and leave the final decision to the House of Representatives. They have the support of a third elector, Washington State’s Robert Satiacum.

“This is a longshot. It’s a hail Mary,” Chiafolo said in a phone interview. “However, I do see situations where — when we’ve already had two or three [Republican] electors state publicly they didn’t want to vote for Trump. How many of them have real issues with Donald Trump in private?”

As much as I don't care for Trump, I sure don't want to see this happen.  We'd be on our way to civil war.....

It isn't going to happen and it shouldn't.  Even if it went to the House, I'm sure they'd do the right thing and give it to the Donald.

Overturning the will of the people?   :chairbang:

Boy, these folks have absolutely no idea the crap storm that will be unleashed...I can only imagine the reaction if the tables were turned had the witch had been elected.
Throwing our allegiances to political parties in the long run gave away our liberty.

One or two may flip, it isn't uncommon, but there is simply too big of a gap that a couple would make a difference.

21 States allow electors to flip, the rest actually have legal contracts with electors to vote the way the State determines. I am wondering about the loyalty breakdown of the States that allow electors to flip. If those already went to Hillary, she may not even have the pick-up where she needs it.

@mystery-ak

I read if those electors did that, the only problem they would have is a $1,000 or so fine.  However, there is another problem they would have with their party.

Several years ago I asked my friend who was State Vice Chair of the Texas Republican Party, what would happen if an Republican Elector bolted and voted for someone else.  Being selected as an Elector is a perk given to the person for years of volunteer service to the party.  If one bolts, that person is never, ever, going to be anything in the party again.  To my knowledge, this has never happened in the Republican Party of Texas.

States in Red have laws against faithless electors. Those in grey do not.

It not Fascism when they do it!

Referring to the American Constitution and Way as Fascist makes me suspect you're a Trumpist.  Am I right?

You're advocating over turning the will of the voters because your candidate lost an election indicates you are a moron.

Except for the rioting, the behavior you're seeing now from the Clinton backers would be switched had the election gone the other way.

Which is why the framers created the Constitution
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Uh-huh.  Democrat electors will try to (somehow) convince partisan Republican electors to vote for Hillary Clinton for president.  Yeah, no.  Not gonna happen.
My political philosophy:

1) I'm not bothering anybody.
2) It's none of your business.
3) Leave me alone!

I didn't advocate a thing.  Reading problem?

Funny that the guy who's ignorant of the Constitution and the foundations of our republic is the one to suggest learning.

If a candidate is so incompetent that "his" electors don't have faith in him, isn't it good that our forefathers saw to it that they'd be a last bulwark against an error?
