Tech founders want California to secede
« on: November 09, 2016, 07:33:37 pm »
Some big names in Silicon Valley have a simple message after Donald Trump's victory: We want out.

Shervin Pishevar, an early Uber investor and cofounder of Hyperloop, posted a series of tweets Tuesday night announcing his plans to fund "a legitimate campaign for California to become its own nation."

And no, he's not joking.

"Yes it's serious," Pishevar told CNNMoney in an e-mail. "It's the most patriotic thing I can do. The country is [at] a serious crossroads."

Within hours, several other tech founders offered their support for the plan.

Doesn't surprise me. Alot of people feel very distant from DC these days.
The Republic is lost.

But those of us who feel distanced from Sacramento and propose secession are "extremists"...

Does northern CA get to secede from CA first?

@geronl

Check my comment on the difference between the CA and tX vote totals. TX doesn't look so conservative anymore.
How to lose credibility while posting:
1. Trump is never wrong.
2. Default to the most puerile emoticon you can find. This is especially useful when you can't win an argument on merits.
3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.
4. When all else fails, remember rule #1 and #2. Emoticons are like the poor man's tweet!

Extreme Liberalism seems to emanate from California, not only is that state ultra-liberal, Trump's vote was somewhere in the 30s% but people flee there and as said, end up making other states liberal like Colorado.

I think there has been a movement to break up California even into 5 different states, Colorado has areas of the state wanting to break off from Denver.

Since there was no conservative on the ballot, it'd be hard to look conservative.

California has 10% of the country's population. If California wants out, it first needs to pay its share of the 20+ trillion dollar US debt. Cough up $2 trillion dollars and that would be a starting point.

And I live in California. Note that most lefties in California didn't originate California. But they have destroyed the state nonetheless.

I'm from Tennessee, and I'm fine with California leaving.  Perhaps we can work a deal with them where only the corridor from San Diego to San Francisco leaves, but they get coastal Oregon and Washington in exchange for inland CA.

I've been saying for years that if mass illegal immigration continues Texas will turn blue by 2030. And once Texas turns blue it is over for conservatives in the USA.

The federal governments debt is not the states debt, though.

With the election of liberal fascist Trump, it's all over for conservatism now.

Take a look at the image of California on this page:
http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/california

Looks to me like the southern/western half of the state could be split off to become it's own nation, with the "red counties" remaining as a state within The United States.

Only Nevada, Alpine, Mono and Fresno counties would be "blue" in the new state.
Perhaps Fresno county could be split in half east/west.

Let the rest of the blue counties go, and become another country if they desire.
Sorry, San Diegans.

But we'll have to find somewhere else to put that Navy base!

The federal governments debt is not the states debt, though.

That debt is on the current citizens of the country as a whole. California spent more than its fair share of that debt.

A tempest in a teapot. Or considering its California,  weed pot.  The issue of secession was settled in 1865.  No secession without agreement and assent by all the other states is legally possible. In short, it won't happen.
Now if California broke off and crashed into the sea, I might not mind much.

I'd lobby the Tennessee congressional delegation to allow them to secede...

Didn't you Democrats learn you lesson when you tried this back in 1860?
