Gingrich: 'Intellectual Yet Idiots' Don't 'Know How Well Trump Is Doing'
Tuesday, September 27, 2016 09:20 PM

By: Cathy Burke

Newt Gingrich lashed out at the "intellectual dishonesty, arrogance and smugness" of the "media elite" who declared Hillary Clinton winner of Monday's presidential debate and ignored the GOP nominee's strategic victory.

On his website, the former Republican House Speaker borrowed a derisive term from financial writer Nassim Taleb to label the Trump debate-bashers as the "Intellectual Yet Idiots" class.

"The Intellectual Yet Idiot class that dominates our news media fell all over themselves critiquing Trump and praising [NBC News anchor and debate moderator Lester] Holt and Clinton," Gingrich wrote.

"Last night, Trump conveyed his core messages," he declared. "He may have lost on glibness, but he won on sincerity, empathy, and authenticity."

"Trump wins strategically because in a blunt, clear style, he is saying things most Americans believe," Gingrich added. "The Intellectual Yet Idiot class is so out of touch with America that they don’t even realize how badly they are doing and how well Trump is doing."

Gingrich points to journalists Salena Zito's take on the debate in the New York Post and online polls showing Trump the winner of the first presidential debate.

"The first debate showcased a blunt, plain spoken businessman and a polished professional politician," he wrote. "Of course the Intellectual Yet Idiot insiders would pick Hillary. They share her passion for words without meaning, analysis without facts, and promises without performance."

According to Gingrich, "Trump won because he didn’t make a major mistake and he stuck to the facts" while Clinton "was vicious, nasty, mean-spirited, and arrogant."

And, Gingrich argued, instead of hitting back at Clinton's "cheap shot" charges of sexism, Trump "responded as a president and not a candidate."

"The media elite were thrilled that Hillary could be so mean and nasty," Gingrich wrote. "The country will prefer a president with self-discipline and a sense of decency."

This is called spin.

I dunno, maybe he's right. I've given up trying to analyze this election. A majority of voters on both sides seems determined to elect a ham sandwich.

Newt's and Limbaugh are infected with Trumpism.  It colors everything they say and is ruining their careers.

Fascism appeals to those who are susceptible to its message of cartoon villains and easy answers.   Newt's signed on to this idiocy, and he's dutifully trying to spin for his supper.

Meanwhile, Trump's been unmasked as the billionaire who pays less in federal taxes than the average redneck.

Their careers deserve to be ruined.  They've betrayed everything they used to stand for.

Oh it's much more than spin.  Spin is an understandable effort to put the best face on something.  Sometimes artful, at best insightful with an eye to political expedience, at worst an insult to intelligence.  This is to spin as an F6 tornado is to a toy top.

Gingrich is engaging in delusion to the point of fantasy.

If there were ever an indictment of party politics in America, it's seeing intelligent Republicans like Gingrich destroy their own credibility by maintaining things which are obviously, transparently, unarguably false.  Limbaugh, Ingraham, etc, all have destroyed themselves over Trump.

While I thought Trump came across as sloppy and incompetent, Hillary came across too rehearsed and arrogant and her smug smile was offensive at times.

Those that refuse to believe that Hillary has done anything wrong and still don't have knowledge of her involvement in Benghazi and the rise of ISIS will vote for her - to them she won the debate.

Those that believe that regardless of what Trump says or does he's better than the dark and evilness that Hillary is capable of will still vote for him - to them he won the debate.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.
