Sen. Chuck Grassley wants to know why fugitives are living in federally-funded housing, which the Iowa Republican points out is a violation of the law.

“It is essential that the federal government ensures the safety and security of public housing residents against fugitive felons and other such predators,” Grassley wrote to Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julian Castro Friday.

Well, we can either put them up in the ghettos, or we can put them up in prisons, either way, we'll be subsidizing their housing; perhaps the more practical question is:  which is cheaper?  Another unasked question is this:  why haven't fugitives been reported to the authorities?  Don't government officials (and quasi-government officials), at least federal officials, have an obligation to report fugitives to law enforcement?
