GOP platform panel embraces Trump’s border wall

By Kyle Cheney

07/12/16 05:38 PM EDT

CLEVELAND -- The Platform Committee of the Republican Party has backed the inclusion of a wall along the southern border with Mexico, embracing an immigration proposal that Donald Trump put at the center of his presidential campaign but that many say is impossible because of cost and logistical challenges.

The policy shift is the clearest sign yet of the party’s move toward Trump, who has campaigned relentlessly on the notion of building a border wall with Mexico to prevent illegal immigration.

The proposal must still be adopted by the full Republican National Convention, which meets next week in Cleveland.

Trump has pledged that the Mexican government will pay for the wall, whose cost would likely run into the tens of billions, but the panel’s draft platform makes no mention of Mexican funding.

Republican Platform Continues to Move Right on Day Two

by Leigh Ann Caldwell

CLEVELAND, Ohio - On day two of meetings to draft Republican policy ahead of the Republican National Convention held here next week, the GOP's platform became more conservative as the committee rejected proposals to include LGBT protections while strengthening language on Israel and trade.

LGBT issues were the most contentious part of the platform committee discussions Tuesday as a handful of advocates proposed amendments that would include specific protections and inclusions of gay and transgender people. All such efforts failed in the conservative committee that said it didn't want to play "identity politics."

This actually isn't a 'policy shift' as Politco states. Almost identical language was in the 2012 Platform document http://www.gop.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/2012GOPPlatform.pdf (pages 25-26)- actually a bit more detailed.

The 2006 Secure Border Act that Congress passed but was never completed. It had in it (and passed so it is already law) double layer fencing along with other security features along the entire border- modified based on terrain- but limited intrusion into US private property, using existing variances. It also included advanced survallence, increased patrolling, motion sensors, and a lot of interesting technology (again, all passed and even funded but never completed).

Finishing it was the achievable goal that Ted Cruz promised along with other border and immigration control measures.

Those writing the platform are also calling internet porn a public health crisis.

Somebody needs to wake these idiots up and tell Carrie Nation that the 1900's are long since over.

They would be correct. It might not be popular, but it is true.
