Labour MP Jo Cox Shot Near Leeds: Eyewitness

Labour MP Jo Cox has been shot and injured in Birstall in West Yorkshire, an eyewitness has said.

Ms Cox was elected as the MP for the Batley and Spen constituency at the general election in 2015 and has two children.

An eyewitness said the 41-year-old was left lying bleeding on the pavement after the incident.

The attack took place near the town's library where she held advice surgeries.

West Yorkshire Police said: "There is an ongoing incident in Birstall", while Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it was "aware" of an incident but had no further information.

Everyone is hereby ordered to disregard this report immediately. It is simply not possible that anyone could ever be shot by a gun in England! England has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the world, and everyone knows that criminals, terrorists, and murderers always obey the law.

With gun laws as strict as the ones in England, rainbows and unicorns rule the sky and no one ever gets shot. This report cannot possibly have happened and must be either erroneous or some kind of a misprint.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

Labour MP Jo Cox ‘shot and stabbed’ outside Birstall library - huge hunt for attacker

Paul Robinson, David Behrens and Ruby Kitchen

WEST Yorkshire MP Jo Cox has been reported shot and stabbed on the steps of Birstall Library, near Leeds.

Ms Cox, 41, is Labour MP for Batley and Spen. She won the seat in the 2015 general election.

Reports at the scene said the attacker - believed to be a man - remained at large.

Ms Cox was conducting a surgery at the library for constituents.

A police helicopter is hovering above the area.

Labour Chief Whip Rosie Winterton, the MP for Doncaster Central, is reported to have told colleagues that the incident is “serious”.

Witnesses said an onlooker tackled a man to the floor and tried to take a gun from him. Moments later, a second shot was heard.

An eyewitness said: “The whole scene has been taped off. There are armed police everywhere.”

One eye-witness told the Yorkshire Post: “I was just on my way to the Tesco in the middle of Birstall at about quarter past one when I realised a helicopter was in the air but didn’t think any more of it.

“Then as I got nearer to the library I heard a girl on her phone talking about a man with a gun and I saw the police tape and ambulances.

“It must have only just happened because there was at least one person still lying in the road being treated by paramedics.

“There was a big police presence and a few of them were armed, which was a bit unnerving to see so close to home.

“At about half one I saw a man being carried on a stretcher into an ambulance.

“Another person is supposed to have been injured but I didn’t see any sign of them.

“The last I saw was just before two o’clock, the whole of the road outside the library was still taped off and a lot of streets round about.

“It’s market day in Birstall so the area will have been busy when this happened. It’s just a shocking situation.”

Another eyewitness saw a man being put into an ambulance, shortly before 1.30pm.

There were at least four ambulances parked nearby, and a heavy police presence including armed officers.

Shocked locals stood on street corners while others chose to remain in their homes.

A member of her Ms Cox’s said: “I’ve just arrived at the scene but I’ve not been told anything more.

“She was doing a surgery. I got a call from a colleague who was with her and I came straight over. There was an ambulance there. She has been injured but I don’t know how or what.”

Daniel Blyth, 38, a company director from Birstall, said: “I saw seven police cars racing up Leeds Road towards Morley. They were unmarked BMWs.

“There are two helicopters flying overhead.

“It all seems very dramatic. I have heard that two people have been shot but I’m not who are why. It’s all very unusual for Birstall.”

Tearful Hichem Ben-Abdallah, owner of the nearby Azzuro restaurant, rushed to the scene after the first shot.

She said: “They’ve taken the victim to hospital - she’s in a bad state.

“I had customers. I was just serving them drinks, then all of a sudden we heard screaming.

“I saw a river of people rushing down the hill. They were screaming - and pulling something behind a car.

“A lady was down on the floor. The man pulled a gun - it was a makeshift gun, not like something you see on television.

“After the second shot I turned and ran. He walked away very calmly, down the steps. Nobody stopped him - he had a gun.

“It’s like I’m dreaming. Even the litter bins have been cordoned off - maybe he dropped something in there.

Terri Flynn-Edwards, owner of Divine Hair Salon, Birstall, which is just yards from the library, said: “I have heard from several customers coming in that an MP has been shot outside the library. I am shocked, this is a quiet village.”

British MP Jo Cox Seriously Wounded in Shooting
Posted By Morgan Chalfant On June 16, 2016 @ 10:51 am In National Security | No Comments

A member of British Parliament was wounded in a shooting Thursday and is believed to be in critical condition.

Sky News first reported that Jo Cox, a member of the Labour Party, was shot multiple times and stabbed in West Yorkshire and is believed to be in critical condition. People who witnessed the gun attack have reported that the gunman shouted “Britain First,” a popular slogan used by individuals who support Britain’s exit from the European Union, according to Fox News.

Cox has opposed Britain’s possible departure from the EU, commonly referred to as “Brexit.” A referendum on the issue will be held on June 23. In the wake of the shooting, campaigning for and against Brexit had been stopped.

Police have one suspect in custody.

An eye witness who spoke to Sky News said that he heard two shots and that Cox, 41, was shot from between two cars. He also said that she was kicked while laying on the ground.

“It looked like a gun from, I don’t know, the First World War, or a makeshift, handmade gun. It’s not sort of like the kind of gun you see normally,” said Hichem Ben Abdallah. He also said that someone appeared to try to stop the attacker.

The suspect left the scene “very, very coolly, very slowly,” the eyewitness recalled.

Eyewitness accounts have described a suspect in a white baseball cap. Clarke Rothwell, another witness, told BBC, “When I looked round there’s a man stood there in his 50s with a white baseball cap on and a jacket with a gun, an old fashioned looking gun in his hand.”

“He shot this lady once and then he shot her again, he fell to the floor, leant over shot her once more in the face area,” Rothwell said.

“Somebody tried to grab him, wrestling with him and then he wielded a knife, like a hunting knife, just started lunging at her with a knife half a dozen times. People were screaming and running from the area,” he recalled.

West Yorkshire Police issued a statement saying that a woman in her 40s was critically injured in Birstall, the village where the shooting took place.

“At 12.53 today, police were called to a report of an incident on Market Street, Birstall, where a woman in her 40s had suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition. A man in his late 40s to early 50s nearby also suffered slight injuries,” police said. “Armed officers attended and a 52-year-old man was arrested in the area. There are no further details at present. Police presence in the area has been increased as a reassurance to the community.”

Cox was meeting with constituents near a library at the time of the incident. She was later airlifted to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.

“Very concerned about reports Jo Cox has been injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jo and her family,” British Prime Minister David Cameron wrote on Twitter. “It’s right that all campaigning has been stopped after the terrible attack on Jo Cox. I won’t go ahead with tonight’s rally in Gibraltar.”

This post will be updated as further information becomes available.

The killer was apparently mentally ill and was actually working at the park as part of a mental-health therapy program.  The insane often glom onto a political ideology because it makes them feel that they're not insane, just really devoted to their cause...the same is often true of the Islamic nutbags. However, the difference is that Islam actually does tell them to go out and kill unbelievers, while I'm sure this "nationalist party" did not have that on their to-do list.

I did not know this and spent some time Googling it. Apparently it's a term used in Britain for when an MP meets with their constituents. Wikipedia article.
Let it burn.

She has since died and the gunman captured.  The press is saying the guy was in support of the British exit from the EU and shouted "Britain First".

He may have had a home-made gun and though, I don't care to use SPLC as a source and besides, it looks like they may quote the UK Daily Telegraph.  Thomas Mair is the name of the accused. This is all curious reading.

So, we could be looking at this, not sure how verified all of this is.:

From the Southern Poverty Law Center website:

Quote
According to records obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center Mair was a dedicated supporter of the National Alliance (NA), the once premier neo-Nazi organization in the United States, for decades. Mair purchased a manual from the NA in 1999 that included instructions on how to build a pistol.

Mair, who resides in what is described as a semi-detached house on the Fieldhead Estate in Birstall, sent just over $620 to the NA, according to invoices for goods purchased from National Vanguard Books, the NA’s printing imprint. Mair purchased subscriptions for periodicals published by the imprint and he bought works that instruct readers on the “Chemistry of Powder & Explosives,” “Incendiaries,” and a work called “Improvised Munitions Handbook." Under “Section III, No. 9” (page 125) of that handbook, there are detailed instructions for constructing a “Pipe Pistol For .38 Caliber Ammunition” from components that can be purchased from nearly any hardware store.

The NA may be best-known for the work of its now-deceased founder, William Pierce, a former physics professor who also wrote racist novels. One, The Turner Diaries, tells the post-apocalyptic fictional story of a white man fighting in a race war that may have provided inspiration for Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

The Daily Telegraph also reported that Mair was a subscriber to S. A. Patriot, a South African magazine published by White Rhino Club, a pro-apartheid group. The club describes that magazine’s editorial stance as opposed to “multi-cultural societies” and “expansionist Islam.” According to the Daily Telegraph, a January 2006 blog post attributed to the group described Mair as “one of the earliest subscribers and supporters of S. A. Patriot.”

More to come in the news.

I have not seen this hardly anywhere else. SPLC seem to be the main ones saying all of this.

You won't see much more than what you've already got in the press from the UK.

Murders are clamped down on, as far as releasing details about the culprits goes.

Realy and based on what? It seems to me, they have a fairly free press and often scoop the US actually.

I see quite a bit in the Daily Mail:

God Bless This Lady, this is a great tragedy but back to the nation of the United Kingdom, something like this has a potential to influence "Brexit", Britain exiting the EU; so, I hope people can still vote their consciences in spit of this sad day.

This is the same type of thing that we see here, when a tragedy happens, "never let a crisis go to waste" type of mentality described below:

Quote

The Guardian in the Gutter

Labour MP Jo Cox has been murdered and just hours later the Guardian has passed judgement in its editorial which actually compares those who criticise Islamist extremism with the Islamist extremists of the Islamic State and of course blames the mild and sensible Nigel Farage for Jo Cox’s death…..

And the suspect:

Quote
Curious that the Guardian doesn’t take note of its own reporting…

Quote
Neighbours say suspect, named locally as Thomas Mair, did voluntary work but he may have suffered mental health issues.

n 2011, he was photographed by the local paper volunteering in nearby Oakwell Hall country park. The previous year he was quoted in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, saying he had begun volunteering after attending Pathways Day Centre for adults with mental health problems.

“I can honestly say it has done me more good than all the psychotherapy and medication in the world,” he said. “Many people who suffer from mental illness are socially isolated and disconnected from society, feelings of worthlessness are also common, mainly caused by long-term unemployment.”

He added: “All these problems are alleviated by doing voluntary work. Getting out of the house and meeting new people is a good thing, but more important in my view is doing physically demanding and useful labour.

Excerpted from: http://biasedbbc.org/blog/2016/06/16/the-guardian-in-the-gutter/

The alleged suspect is in custody, so, perhaps we will hear his sordid story.

... Attack didn't occur in isolation, say some

Polly Toynbee, political columnist for the Guardian, went even further this morning, blaming "open and shocking" recklessness, the "finger-jabbing and overt racism."

Explosive words, when set against the backdrop of Cox's support for refugees and immigrants (and for remaining in the EU), in a debate where those in support of an exit from the European Union, or Brexit, have used immigration as an argument against remaining with the EU.

"The attack on a public official cannot be viewed in isolation," she wrote. "It occurs against a backdrop of an ugly public mood in which we have been told to despise the political class, to distrust those who serve, to dehumanize those with whom we do not readily identify."  ...
