The Biblical Case for Voting for Donald Trump

My recent column urging Christian leaders to be extremely hesitant about throwing their support behind Donald Trump’s presidential run turned out to be the most read piece I’ve ever written for CR.
Among the positive feedback I received were assurances that God wants Trump in the White House, that Jesus himself would vote for Trump if he could, and that Trump’s candidacy was prophesied several years ago to save America. Well, that’s a relief. It’s settled then, because if it’s prophesied there’s no reason to sweat out the next five months. So smoke ‘em if you got ‘em!

Still, Scripture does command us to “test the spirits.” And being of the skeptical contrarian sort, I decided to conduct my own investigation to see if there is a Biblical case for voting for Trump for president. Lo and behold, I was pleasantly surprised to see the evidence was overwhelming. If only I was willing to try hard enough.

The following seven verses, taken in context, make a solid hermeneutical argument for voting for Trump (I even included the specific verse citations so that you can look them up for yourself and not just take my word for it):

“And Abraham was affixed with the ‘Magic R’ after his name, and it was credited to him righteousness.” Two Self Righteous 6:66 Here God reveals the key doctrine of Sola Republica for the first time. Making it clear that it is by adorning the “Magic R” after our names we are alone justified, and our sins are atoned for. Every Leftist thing you said or did prior to adorning the “Magic R” – no matter how heinous or voluminous – has now been wiped away from memory. And only a pharisaical cuck would still hold them against you once you are absolved. In fact, you can even continue saying and doing those Leftist things after receiving the “Magic R” because “judge not lest ye be judged” or something.

“The LORD helps those who help themselves.” Ben’s Epistle to Poor Richard
Skeptics consider it a contradiction that in this passage God urges people to rely on themselves more than Him, since elsewhere in the Scriptures it appears God says the exact opposite. However, no one is more open-minded than God, thus I’m inclined to give God credit for introducing us to situational ethics here.

“When confronted with two bad choices, always rely on your own opinions, feelings, and fears to determine which sucks less and God will bless your good intentions.” Matthew 10:28I think this one is self-evident. Jesus, the nicest and most tolerant revolutionary who ever lived (peace be upon him), makes it clear here that God has no standard other than His hope that we make good choices.

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, job creation; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 When Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. said several months ago the jobs created by Donald Trump’s wealth were evidence of his Christian witness, well, I will admit to being a little bit dubious. But I decided to scour the Word for confirmation myself. And wouldn’t you know, Junior was right! O ye of little faith. Of course, this creates further moral dilemmas. Such as the fact that the porn industry generates more revenue/jobs every year than all the teams in Major League Baseball combined. Does that mean they’re Christians too? But since I know a loving God would never send anyone to Hell, they probably are. After all, God is a god of prosperity.

“Since God has no say in who’s in charge down here, He expects you to use your ‘free will’ to just do the best you can.” Romans 13:1 I don’t know about you, but I find it really comforting to worship a God that’s like totally disinterested in our affairs, and/or not empowered to do something about them if things go to pot down here. Sure, I kind of wonder why He put His Son through all that torture and tumult if we can just go our own way when we want, but that’s when we render unto Caesar. Oh, and when in Rome, plus two kingdoms — so there.

“Did God really say?” Genesis 3:1 I probably should’ve listed this verse first, given who it’s attributed to. Hint: wise men still seek Him. Right from the get-go, the Bible lets us know we can’t really ever know what God says, does, or thinks. That’s probably why it’s the all-time best-seller, because it just lets people think whatever they want. And when you’re that diversified you reach everybody! Talk about a big tent.

“Here’s what the LORD decrees as lesser evils…” Ezekiel 23:20 Here God, through the prophet Ezekiel, catalogues for us exactly what is the lesser of two evils. The list is too lengthy to include here, which is why I would urge you to look up the passage and read it for yourself. But this is a handy-dandy tool for voting and compromise if I’ve ever seen one.
I hope you find this study as useful as I did. Unfortunately, there will likely be legalists who take issue with the integrity of my exegetical conclusions here. If that’s you, I just want you to know that before I wrote this I prayed about it. And I feel really good about where I’m at right now.

Amazing the things that God gets blamed for.

This is ridiculous.... a bunch of made-up trash!

It doesn't even cite Trump's Epistle to the Two Corinthians, as dictated to Yahweh.
