First on CNN: Clinton campaign's plans to subvert Trump's veterans press conference

By Jeremy Diamond, CNN

Updated 10:13 AM ET, Tue May 31, 2016

New York (CNN)Hillary Clinton's campaign on Tuesday will launch a multi-pronged communications effort to trash Donald Trump's record on veterans' issues and undermine the billionaire's news conference touting the money he's raised for veterans' causes in recent months.

The campaign will host a national press call, release statements and unleash surrogates in key battleground states armed with talking points and opposition research to highlight Trump's past disparaging remarks about veterans, his Veterans Administration reform plans, and his months-long refusal to fully account for the funds he raised in January for veterans' charities, according to plans the Clinton campaign shared with CNN.

The plan is the Clinton campaign's most targeted effort yet to disrupt a Trump-organized event that the billionaire hopes will earn him hours of free -- and largely positive -- media time. And it comes on the heels of the Clinton camp's week-long effort last week to knock Trump off-message and discredit the presumptive Republican nominee by hammering him over a series of comments he made about the 2008 financial crisis.

Trump should counter this by saying that the best way to respect veterans is to make sure they don't die overseas, abandoned by their government, or in wars that the government doesn't seem interested in winning.  Tie her to Afghanistan, the loss of Iraq, and Benghazi.  Make every veterans issue about her tenure as Secretary of State.

Then briefly just trash her and Obama on the VA.  Don't even respond to the negative things she says about him.

That would be very effective. Hillary has supported the half-measures since 2003 in the protracted, ineffective "War Sort of Against Terror"

Great post. There is just no high ground for Hitlery on anything to do with veterans, the military, or foreign policy.

There's a huge opportunity here for Trump, especially on the issue of Iraq.  He can say he wasn't a fan of going in (yeah, I know....), but that through a whole lot of lives and sacrifice, our magnificent troops did what they were asked.  And when Obama and Hillary came into office, they were handed a "win", and actually said how great things were when he ordered us to pull out.   And make it all about the lives that were wasted by their incompetence.   The dead and those they leave behind, the wounded who have to live with terrible scars -- and for a war that was won, that they simply gave away.

"Have you apologized to them, Hillary Clinton"?  Did you tell those who lived and all the families that you're sorry for having screwed up what they won?  Or is it not your fault - maybe blame it on a movie again..."

I'd freaking hammer her on that.
