Some Moderate Democrats Say They Could Work With Trump

Donald Trump as President is not Choice 1, but some moderate Democrats at least are not apoplectic regarding the idea of a Trump presidency.

It's especially true for Democrats in purple districts/states looking ahead to 2018 midterms when they might actually need Trump supporters to get re-elected.

"This place doesn't work very well unless you're able to work with folks," Montana Sen. Jon Tester told Politico. "I mean he's got some pretty goofy opinions, but hopefully we've got some stuff we can work on."

Tester is one of several moderate Democratic senators who will have a target on their back in the 2018 midterms, including Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

Trump should easily win North Dakota and Montana and would be the favorite to win West Virginia, too, Politico reports. If those wins lead to a Trump presidency, Tester, Heitkamp and Manchin have some work to do — turn a negative into an opportunity.

Trump has hinted at policies that align with Democrats: higher minimum wage, infrastructure investment, health care. However, Trump's policy platform has also been a moving target.

"I don't know if he'd send one piece of legislation over in the morning, and then send the exact opposite legislation that afternoon," Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, told Politico. "You go down every single issue, he is all over the place. … It's clear to me he's kind of making this up as he goes along."

Call Trump's ideas goofy and schizophrenic, but both Democrats and Republicans acknowledge there are angry, hurting people across the country, and if Trump is the one who can convince them he's the right person to cure what ails them, then it's time to figure it out.

"What they've done is nominate a candidate who's of neither camp to basically shake things up," Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas told Politico. "And hopefully help us to address some of these long-standing issues that we know are a problem."

Call Trump's ideas goofy and schizophrenic, but both Democrats and Republicans acknowledge there are angry, hurting people across the country, and if Trump is the one who can convince them he's the right person to cure what ails them, then it's time to figure it out.

Cornyn is confessing that he is an abject failure. If he had any integrity, he would resign and give his seat to someone who would do the job.

The House of Representatives originates every single dollar spent by the fedgov. It's not rocket science. The Republicans were given the majority and all they did was kick cans down roads.

And now he thinks Trump is going to ride to the rescue for them?

What a disgusting spectacle.
