NAACP Held A Rally In Philadelphia And Nobody Showed Up

If a black activists group holds a rally and no one shows up, does it make a sound? The answer to this Zen question was answered today in Philadelphia when the NAACP threw a get-out-the-vote/complain-about-racism rally and literally nobody came. So in answer to the question: yes a rally with no participants makes a sound, but nobody gives a crap.
Philly.com reports:
Minister Rodney Muhammad, president of the local NAACP chapter, said the planned rally at Berean Presbyterian Church at Broad and Diamond Streets was to inform potential voters about Pennsylvania’s April 26 primary. Monday is the deadline to register to vote.
A guy named “Muhammad” holding a rally at a Presbyterian church? Well there’s your problem. People were either too confused or too terrified to show up. Muhammad has an alternate theory:
Muhammad said he wasn’t disappointed, blaming the poor turnout on his failure last month, when he planned the event, to realize he had chosen the day before Easter.
Yeah, it must be really hard to get people to come to church on Easter weekend. It’s not like Christians spend any time in church between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Oh wait, that’s not true, there must be some other reason why no one came to this rally.
Another conflict, he said, was a live radio program on 900AM-WURD called, “The Black List: Creating a Path to Economic Self-Determination.” He said that drew away people who would have attended the rally.
Are we to understand that Muhammad thinks no one came to his rally because they stayed home to listen to the radio? What is this, the 1920’s?
In addition to getting out the vote, the other purpose of this rally was to call attention to a grave racial injustice. It seems that a black woman was arrested after she interfered with a police investigation into a theft committed by her son. When detectives, white ones, showed up to arrest Nicol Newman’s son for theft, the woman lost her shit and ended up getting arrested for disorderly conduct.
Muhammad had hoped to use the rally to point out “the myriad of things that’s going on in the community that serve as an injustice one way or another.” Better luck next time, Muhammad. And believe it or not, there will be a next time. Muhammad says he is looking forward to more “get out the vote” rallies he has planned. He just has to make sure they aren’t during a time when people might go to church or listen to the radio.
To be fair, Philly.com does say that one or two people stopped by this doomed rally, but left after seeing that nothing was going on. I say that still qualifies as no one showing up and it definitely qualifies as sad. Even anti-gun Moms Demand Action can get at least two people to show up for one of their rallies.
