LeBron James Wants To Get Rid Of All Guns Or At The Very Least Make It Illegal To Kill People With Them

The cool thing about being a celebrity is that everyone will listen to you no mater how little sense you make. NBA superstar LeBron James chimed in on the gun control debate with all of the intelligence and insight you’d expect from someone that skipped college and went straight to the pros. James wants to get rid of all the guns, and if that can’t happen, then he at least wants some laws that make committing crimes with guns illegal.

Following a recent rash of shootings in Cleveland where young children were shot and killed, including an 5-month old baby, James was rightfully angry. His anger however was directed at inanimate objects and not the assholes doing the killing. According to Ohio.com, after Cleveland Cavaliers practice on Friday, James made his thoughts on gun control known:

“Obviously it’s not the first time that it’s happened, but it’s been happening a little bit too much recently. There’s no room for guns, first of all, but then for violence towards kids or anybody,” said James.

That’s probably not the most articulate statement, but it’s not taken out of context: that’s what he said and there isn’t anything else that changes the meaning. He says there’s no room for guns, which can only be taken as he wants guns to be outlawed.

The prospect of banning guns and disarming the entire US population is absurd. James actually admits to this, begging the question why he said we should get rid of all the guns in the first place. Then, his stream-of-consciousness interview took an even more bizarre turn as he wished for things that already exist:

“Obviously you’re not going to be able to take every gun out, I don’t know how you can do that. There’s so many around now, today. But if there’s some stipulations behind it or some penalties, some big time penalties or rules or regulations about carrying firearms, legal or illegal, people will second-guess themselves.”

So, LeBron James wants there to be some sort of law that penalizes illegal gun use as well as regulations for the legal carrying of firearms? Clearly he knows a lot about this issue and has important views to share on it.

As it turns out the State of Ohio does have a few regulations concerning the concealed carry of handguns. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, pass a background check, undergo 12 hours of training, and demonstrate competency with the weapon.

And as fate would have it, Ohio also has some regulations on illegally carrying a gun: it’s illegal! Felons, drug abusers, and anyone under 21 cannot own or possess a handgun in the state. Everyone is banned from carrying a concealed weapon if they don’t have a state license to do so.

In relation to the young children murdered in Cleveland that James was talking about, Ohio also makes shooting at people and killing them illegal if it is not a clear-cut case of self-defense.

LeBron James has been a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and critic of police violence against black people. He needs to understand that violence problem in Cleveland isn’t because law-abiding people have a right to own a gun or that police arrest criminals; it’s due to the fact that some blacks don’t obey the law or believe that black lives really do matter. It ain’t the cops, it ain’t our rights, it’s black-on-black crime, which BTW is already illegal.
