Ben Carson: I’m open to considering one’s religion as probable cause for a search of email, phone records
Adam Edelman

Ben Carson may want to stick to just providing his medical opinions.

The retired neurosurgeon and surging 2016 Republican candidate offered another controversial stance about Islam in America on Sunday, saying that he's open to considering religion as probable cause for searches.

When asked on ABC's "This Week" if he would listen to arguments from people advocating that one's religion could provide probable cause to search the emails and calls of Syrian refugees being let into the U.S., Carson answered in the affirmative.

"I personally don't feel that way, but I would certainly be willing to listen to somebody who had evidence to the contrary," Carson said. "I think that's one of the problems, we get to our little corners, and we don't want to listen to anybody."

"What we should be talking about is Islam and the tenets of Islam and where do they come from? They come from sharia. They come from Koran," he added, diving back into his anti-Muslim comments from last week. "They come from, you know, the life works and examples of Mohammed. They come from the fatwas, which is the writings of scholars. You know, and if you go back and you look at — what I would like for somebody to show me is an improved Islamic text that opposes sharia."

"Considering one's religion as probably cause"

So, Carson is saying that he thinks Obama hasn't gone far enough in targeting Christians?  Maybe all priests and pastors should have their emails read by the FBI.

That'd be great, wouldn't it?

How does using religion as 'probably cause' sound now?

---

Carson's sounding more like a Spanish Inquisitor each day.

My response would be, show probable cause that would make the law/rule apply to me.

I have absolutely no problem with profiling incoming Islamic immigrants' by viewing social media and emails, etc...   They aren't citizens.  They are essentially wards of the State.  Eff them if they can't take a joke.

Are you faithful and religious?  That is probable cause to Carson.  That's *ALL* that's necessary according to him.

My point is to say, "What you'd have done to others... will be done *TO* you at some point."  So if it's wrong for it to be done to you, it's wrong for it to be done to anyone whose done the same as you.

Carson is scary.  He makes statements that express his true opinions, then spends the next week backtracking.

He did the same thing with guns.

I could never support Ben Carson in a primary.

Agree with you on Carson.  As I have said before; he has no voting record to check on.  He has no business record to check on.  For all we know he could be another follower of Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers. All we know for sure about the guy is he is a neurosurgeon.  Hardly qualifications to run a country; especially with the turmoil that we are in.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

At least he has not gone through multiple bankruptcies and marriages, nor has he been accused of failing as CEO
or illegally dealing with an enemy state.  If we have to go with an untried person I guess he's as qualified as any.

They are both bad choices.  One's a crony capitalist and the other is as you see here.

Another misleading headline. Carson DID NOT say he would consider it. What he did say is,
"I personally don't feel that way, but I would certainly be willing to listen to somebody who had evidence to the contrary,"

So this is something that he would not do, but will listen to the arguments of those supporting such action. How can you read anything else into the statement?

Profiling.

It's mean, it's nasty, it's cruel, it's racist, it's against civil liberties.

vs.

It works.

Which argument weighs more?

Good on ya, doctor!

I don't believe Dr. Carson is going to become president, but what he HAS done is to change the conversation regarding muslims in The West.

It's ABOUT TIME we started talking this way.
