Trump's Political Contributions
« on: August 26, 2015, 04:40:55 pm »
Uh Oh ..
Trump Haters?

Trump has contributed to the campaigns of many Republicans including Allen West, McCain-Palin, Peter King, Lindsay Graham, Thom Tillis, John Cornyn, Louie Gohmert, Tim Scott, Mark Foley, George Allen, Bush-Cheney, Rudy Guliani, Clay Shaw, Tom Kean, as well as a number of donations to the RNC.

Trump has also contributed money to a number of Democrats. Looking at a list of his political contributions since 1999 (almost $900,000 total) it appears Trump gave 62% of his political contributions to Republicans and 38% to Democrats.

As far as I can tell, Mr. Trump's greatest political contribution to date has been to make Jeb Bush seem like a palatable alternative.

Republican backing for Bush dipped from 16 percent to 8 percent in the last five days, the online poll found, as the former Florida governor feuded with Trump over immigration policy and defended his use of the term "anchor babies" to describe U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants.

Exactly. Jeb's not high on my personal totem pole, but he's at least a few scary heads above The Donald.

I've never thought the business side of Washington corruption was personal.

I feel the same way.  It's probably no secret that Cruz is down at the bottom of my list with Bush and Trump, but Cruz looks fantastic and very classy compared to Trump

Well, Ted's admittedly a lot higher on my personal list, but this whole Summer of Trump thing has really changed my perspective about the upcoming race.

I find myself now placing a significant premium on prospective candidates who can engage others in debate both intelligently and passionately, but also with civility and respect. We already have one massive ego sitting atop Mt. Obamus, and he can't be gone soon enough.

That's why we have these things called primaries! They allow US to sort it all out and it's still a LONG time before the first votes will be cast!

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Believe me, I know. It's only late August and here in New Hampshire, you can hardly drive down the street without running over a Presidential candidate.

In some cases, I actually try to miss.

Got to admit .. He knows how to fight and win! :silly:

Quote
The disassociation of ESPN and NASCAR with the Trump Organization was covered by the press in headlines all over the world as though it was a major setback for me. Really? What were the losses?

One NASCAR banquet in a magnificent ballroom at Trump National Doral in Miami for which I will keep their very substantial deposit and rent the ballroom to someone else that night––in other words, two fees instead of one (NASCAR has already apologized to me)!

In the case of ESPN, they cancelled a simple golf outing at my course, Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, perhaps the most valuable parcel of land in all of golf.

Likewise, they lost a large deposit. I will now let people use the course on that day, receiving substantial additional greens fee income. Again, I get two fees instead of one. This is the big deal built up by the press on ESPN and NASCAR––a banquet and a golf outing.

Headlines blared all over the world, “ESPN and NASCAR Dropping Trump”––Give me a break! All of this because of my strong stance on illegal immigration during my run for President…Make America Great Again!

Well then...I hope many more people and businesses sever their ties with Trump.  Everybody is a winner!

mrclose, Trump greasing the skids of both parties is not exactly breaking news. Everyone knew this even prior to the first debate where he said so on National TV that he gives to both parties, because its part of running a business.

But if you want to break it down, Donald Trump gave more to Democrats than Republicans in all but one year from 1999-2007. Since 2011 (sensing a Run for president) he stops cold donations to Democrats and turns up donations to Republicans big time. All for show.

I agree with this part of your post.  Business people of all stripes and sizes routinely give to both political parties--with more going to the expected winner.  It's a survival instinct.  And for the most part, it works--especially at the state and local levels.

If he doesn't win the nomination, you can bet those Democrat contributions will continue. Maybe even grow - his way of taking a loss out on the GOP.
