A 16-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested Saturday in Texas after he set a deputy constable’s patrol car on fire and pointed a rifle at authorities before leading them on a 35-minute car chase, authorities said.
The teen, whose name was not released, also reportedly said that the incident was about a war against the government, because Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is always deporting Mexicans, who are the ones in America doing all the work, police told the Pearland Journal.
Deputies said the teenager set fire to a Precinct 4 deputy constable’s patrol car in Manvel, then pointed a rifle out his car window as an officer approached him.
A car chase began and the teenager hit a motorcycle officer escorting a funeral. No officers were injured, the Pearland Journal reported.
Authorities said the suspect lost control of his vehicle and again pulled the rifle on the deputies. The chase ended in a one-vehicle crash on FM 518 at Kingsley Drive in Pearland, where the suspect was taken into custody. No weapons were fired.
According to Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Paige Newsom, the suspect said that he was tired of his people getting shot by police without consequences, so he came to shoot them, the Pearland Journal reported.
The teenager is charged with arson, aggravated assault of a public servant with a deadly weapon, drug possession and evading arrest.
