Usual disclaimer - DEBKAfile can sometimes be superb, sometimes be less than reliable. As this is straight reportage, mark it as reliable.

The Iraqi military command announced Monday that operations had begun to recapture the country’s largest province of Anbar from Islamic State-ISIS control. The first target of Iraqi troops, backed by Shiite militias, is the town of Falluja, 50 km west of Baghdad, nearly two months after ISIS captured the Anbar capital of Ramadi.  The force is composed of the Shiite Hashid Shaabi militia, Iraqi special forces, police and local Sunni Muslim tribal fighters. DEBKAfile: The Iraqi high command has announced a number of offensives against ISIS in the past in Anbar, Ramadi and the refinery city of Baiji, but they all continue to drag on without a resolution.
