Carville: I 'Suspect' Hillary Used Private Email to Avoid Congressional Oversight
Daniel Halper

James Carville, a former aide to Bill Clinton and a longtime defender of the Clintons, offered an explanation on ABC's This Week as to why Hillary Clinton might have used a private email account: to avoid congressional oversight.

Watch here:

"What this is, is the latest in a continuation, and if you take it all and put it together, and you subtract 3.1415 from pi, you're left with not very much. And that's -- at the end of the day, so the Republicans can't pass a budget, alright, we got another investigation, just like we had the Whitewater, just like you go through the filegate, you go through travelgate, you go through seven or eight different congressional committees. And you wonder why the public is not following this? Because they know what it is.

"It was something she did. It was legal. I suspect she didn't want [Republican congressman] Louie Gohmert rifling through her emails, which seems to me to be a kind of reasonable position for someone to take. It amounts to -- just like everything else before it, it amounts to nothing but a bunch of people flapping their jaws about nothing."

The comment about Gohmert going through emails suggests Carville thinks Hillary Clinton set up the private email server to avoid congressional oversight.

The slip was noticed by Bloomberg's Mark Halperin, who commented on Twitter:

James Carville on @ThisWeekABC says he "suspects" @HillaryClinton used private email b/c she didn't want Hill oversight. Quite an admission

Kind of a misleading headline.  The headline suggests Carville may have been throwing her under the bus.  Instead, it is an upside-down, Alice in Wonderland defense of the action.

Why put these people who are so loyal to her on tv? What she did was illegal.

"I suspect she didn't want [Republican congressman] Louie Gohmert rifling through her emails"

Why? Why would this cause her distress? As a public employee, she must have known when she accepted the job that she was subject to oversight.

I don't work for the government. I work for a private company, and you can be sure they are aware of every email I send and receive. And, furthermore, if I started conducting company business with a @yahoo.com email, there is no doubt they would tell me to knock it off. In fact, with a @yahoo.com email, I doubt I could even talk to my coworkers. I wouldn't make it through the firewall. My emails from an unknown server would be treated like spam.

I wonder how Hillary got her emails through the government firewall? Someone must have specifically "allowed" her private email address to pass through the firewall. Otherwise, it would have been blocked automatically.

If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Geez, cut to the chase, Serpenthead. I nearly forgot what we were talking about.
