The United States and Israel are considering some form of a land blockade to crank up the economic pressure on Iran as the war against the Islamic Republic enters its sixth month, the Washington Free Beacon can report. The land blockade would complement the sea blockade that's been in effect for some time.

"What if you just block the land? Suppose Iran can't bring anything in, cannot take anything out," a senior Israeli official told the Free Beacon—raising one possibility the two countries have been discussing.



The high-level official said such a blockade would be part of an "economic element" that could bring sufficient pressure to bear against Iran, which has so far proved stubbornly resistant to American and Israeli military power.

Iran has long borders with seven different countries—Turkey, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia—countries that each have different and complicated relations with the United States and Israel. It's unclear how such a land blockade could work in practice.

Isn't Iran about twice the size of Texas?  Someone thinks blocking entrances into it is feasible? :shrug:

This is a stupid idea and impossible to carry out.  Iran is just too big and shares borders with too many other countries.  Might as well to blockade China.

The Iranians can still get goods via the Caspian Sea and smuggling routes.

The Iranian regime will not capitulate and they will not negotiate in good faith.

To change Iran, you need to change the regime.  That requires elimination of all IRGC personnel, logistics, and funding.

This is not a military conflict.  The is a political and idealogical conflict.

Once the Chi-com's start sending their military personnel to Iran, the political and diplomatic position on the ground becomes more difficult for the US and Israel.

I suspect that Pakistan will be a strategic conduit for moving Chi-com assets into Iran.  Pakistan and China have a shared strategic interest in challenging India's control of certain territories.
