EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — The Trump administration has added La Linea — remnants of the old Juarez cartel — to its list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations, allowing the U.S to go after its assets and those who help them.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Wednesday updated its Specially Designated Nationals list, designating the Juarez cartel as a Transnational Terrorist Group.
Group wants La Linea designated as Foreign Terrorist Organization
The SDN list identifies individuals, companies, and groups tied to terrorism, drug trafficking, and hostile foreign nations. According to OFAC, if someone is on the SDN list, their assets in the United States are frozen, and people and businesses in the U.S. are generally blocked from doing business with them.
The Juarez cartel is known by various names, including the Carrillo Fuentes Drug Trafficking Organization; La Linea; Barrio Azteca; Vicente Carrillo Fuentes Organization; VCFO. Nowadays, the criminal group is commonly known as La Linea.
