Special Forces Officer Receives Medal of Honor
Major Nicholas Dockery
Thu, 06/18/2026 - 17:55

Retired Maj. Nicholas Dockery, who in 2012 led his soldiers through an intense four-hour battle and used his own body to shield a wounded soldier from enemy fire in Afghanistan, received the Medal of Honor June 18 during a ceremony at the White House.

Dockery received the nation’s highest award for valor from President Donald Trump. Retired Marine Maj. James Capers, recognized for his actions in Vietnam in 1967, also received the Medal of Honor from the president. Marine Col. John Ripley was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Vietnam in 1972. His son, Tom Ripley, accepted the medal on his father’s behalf.

“As we approach the 250th anniversary of our founding, we remember that we owe everything to heroes like those we celebrate today, men who went to the darkest and most dangerous corners on Earth to defeat evil so we could live free,” Trump said during the ceremony. “That’s exactly what happened. These are great men, great people. We thank you, and we will never ever forget you.”
