Trump's Helping The Economy, But 63% Of Americans Disagree

The Republican PR machine is failing.

Joseph Ford Cotto | June 15, 2026

America’s economy shows clear signs of healing after the heavy damage from the Biden-Harris administration, yet most voters remain deeply frustrated.

Core inflation now sits at 2.9 percent. That is less than half the 6.0 percent rate recorded at the same point under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Families are feeling some relief through targeted tax cuts that put real money back in working people’s pockets. Employment is way up.

Still, numerous polls paint a troubling picture.

One of them is from The Economist and YouGov. Among American adults, only 29 percent approve of President Donald J. Trump’s handling of the economy, with 63 percent disapproving. This disconnect between progress on the ground and widespread dissatisfaction should trouble every Republican who cares about the pivotal November midterm elections.

The economic numbers tell a story of steady improvement.

The total trade deficit in April came in at $55.88 billion, down from March and seven percent below the recent 12-month average. Goods deficits narrowed too. These gains did not happen by accident. Trump’s bold tariff strategy was launched on Liberation Day—April 2, 2025—with a baseline 10 percent on most imports and higher rates where needed. That pushed stubborn, powerful trading partners to the table.

After the Supreme Court forced adjustments, Trump’s administration used other tools to crack down on corrosive practices.
