The Army is establishing a new MOS to operate and maintain two of the service’s most critical and advanced air and missile defense systems.
The air and missile defense systems repairer, or 14W, will specialize in the Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile systems, said Maj. Travis Shaw, an Army spokesman. Soldiers in the MOS will combine the skill sets from two existing specialties—Patriot fire control enhanced operator/maintainer, 14E, and Patriot launching station enhanced operator/maintainer, 14T, he said.
The move “expands the Army’s long-range fires capabilities while relieving operational strain on heavily deployed units,” Shaw said.
Air defense soldiers are in high demand around the world, with soldiers in those units seeing one of the highest operational tempos in the force.
