How to Persuade Iran to End War . . . and Give Up Its Nuclear Program › American Greatness
Bruce Oliver Newsome
On Sunday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran has offered to export and dilute some of its enriched uranium and to pause enrichment for a period of less than 20 years.
Probably the proposed period is 15 years. At the start of this month, anonymous Iranians told Al Jazeera that Iran is offering to pause enrichment for “up to 15 years.” This was a concession: Iran had previously offered to pause for five years.
But the US should stick to its insistence that Iran should give up its nuclear program entirely (as Israel urges). Iran has no civilian need for a nuclear program. It is a terrorist, imperialist state that cannot be trusted with nuclear material.
Iran has repeatedly demonstrated its evasion of international inspections and of its commitments to utilize its enriched uranium for the generation of civilian energy.
In 2025, the IAEA reported that Iran boasts 440 kg of 60 percent U-235, far more enriched than what is required for civilian energy production (about 5 percent). US intelligence decided Iran was weeks away from further enriching enough material for at least one nuclear weapon. The 440 kg could be enriched for as many as 10 nuclear weapons, not counting more than 10 times as much weight of low-enriched uranium.
Iran is stalling for peace, in hopes that the US would tolerate Iran’s nuclear program, just to end a war that was supposed to last weeks but is now in its third month. US inflation keeps rising. Midterm elections are coming up in November, with the potential to flip both chambers of Congress from Republican to Democrat control.
