Pope Leo XIV has rebuffed efforts by freedom of religion advocates to focus his attention on the state-sanctioned Islamist persecution of Christians during his trip to Algeria on April 13-14, 2026.

The pontiff, who began a ten-day Africa tour with a visit to Algeria, honored Marxist and Muslim revolutionaries at the Martyrs’ Memorial, but did not visit the Tibhirine monastery on the thirtieth anniversary of the Islamist kidnapping and beheading of seven Trappist monks there.

French commentators underscored the irony of the papal genuflection at the Memorial, noting that Algeria’s war of independence resulted in the massacres and expulsion of one million pieds-noirs—mostly Algerian-born French Catholics.

The pontiff ignored pleas urging him to intercede for religious freedom.

On the eve of Leo’s flight to Algiers, the European Centre for Law and Justice spotlighted the oppression of Christians in Algeria, stating: “According to the Algerian Constitution, Islam is the state religion, leading the former president of the High Islamic Council to declare that ‘an Algerian can only be Muslim’ (2021).”

It must have been gruelling for him to maquerade as a Christian all  these years.

I think it's safe to say that this Pope does NOT have the best interests of Catholics nor Christians in his heart.

IIRC someone in this forum defended this Pope and the Ecumenical movement.   I strongly beg to differ.  This Pope is evil and the movement has been a determent to Catholicism.

Is there a way to mandate that this pope step down.  It's hard to believe that this is who was elected through the conclave of bishops.  I question the 'intent' of those bishops.

Not sure where to post this bit of news, but imagine my surprise to learn that the Pope has replaced the bishop serving the diocese that covers the entire state of West Virginia ... with an illegal immigrant. (Oh, my bad, formerly undocumented).

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The next bishop for West Virginia Catholics will be an El Salvador-born advocate for immigrants who has opposed U.S. President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown policies.

Pope Leo XIV announced Friday the appointment of the Most Rev. Evelio Menjivar-Ayala, an auxiliary bishop in Washington, D.C., as the new leader of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, which comprises West Virginia, one of the nation's least racially diverse states.

Menjivar-Ayala, 55, fled El Salvador's civil war as a teen in the late 1980s, eventually crossing illegally into the United States in 1990, he told The Associated Press in an interview last year. But within "a couple of weeks" he gained humanitarian protection, later was granted a visa as a religious worker, and became a U.S. citizen two decades ago. ... AP via PBS

Apparently, WV Catholics deserve this slap in the face because their state is not "racially diverse."

It looks like Leo is as bad as Francis when it comes to Liberation Theology.

Needless to say, there aren't many hispanics in WV, mostly the illegals working in Mexican restaurants or doing shoddy construction work.
