Supreme Court hands GOP a redistricting win by striking down lower court block on Texas map
By Anders Hagstrom Fox News

The Supreme Court handed down a victory for the Republican Party on Monday, striking down a lower court's ruling that had blocked Texas' plans for redrawing its congressional districts.

The court hung its order on reasoning from a previous ruling in Abbott v. League of United Latin American Citizens, but did not elaborate. Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented from the decision.

This is a developing story. Check back soon for updates.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
Now the question this swerves into is that does this make the Voting Rights Act null and void in terms of drawing maps for Southern states? Because if so then I've read that we could add up to 20 seats in the House if all the Red states did that.
The Republic is lost.

Supreme Court Hands Texas GOP Redistricting Win, While Virginia Judge Backs Democrats

Monday, Apr 27, 2026 - 11:45 AM

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday granted Republicans a significant boost in the ongoing battle over congressional boundaries, issuing a summary reversal that allows Texas to proceed with its 2025 mid-decade congressional map for the November 2026 elections.

In the case, Abbott v. League of United Latin American Citizens, the justices overturned a federal district court’s earlier injunction against the new boundaries. The majority referenced its own prior opinion from late 2025 in the same litigation, while Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson noted their disagreement with the outcome.

The Texas map, redrawn by the Republican-led legislature last year, had faced challenges from voting-rights organizations that claimed it improperly relied on race. A lower court had blocked its implementation in November 2025, but the Supreme Court had previously paused that order to let primaries move forward.

Boom. Another massive victory for Republicans and common sense.

In a decisive ruling Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed a liberal federal district court’s decision and fully approved Texas’ new congressional redistricting map — clearing the way for Republicans to potentially pick up as many as five additional House seats in the 2026 midterms.

The justices issued a short, unsigned order that simply stated: “We reverse the District Court’s judgment.” Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented without explanation, as expected.

The VA pickup last time I looked was 4 seats. 5 now in Texas, plus several around the US. Florida is about to redistrict. In the next 2 years if the SCOTUS does away with the racial blocks on the southern states you can expect more GOP seats in those states. Those VA dummycrats actually messed up really bad!

... just draw the lines after the votes have been counted.  A much more cost effective means for a state majority party to get the outcome it wants.
