Climate shakedown lawsuits threaten U.S. energy dominance

Propelled by the shale revolution in which human ingenuity (fracking) has made beneficial use of favorable geology, the United States is now the world’s leading producer of crude oil and natural gas.

China can produce all the solar panels and raw materials for wind turbines and EV batteries it wishes, but Beijing’s bet that it can hook the world on green energy is no match for America’s fossil-fuel dominance.

But instead of celebrating the nation’s good fortune, a ravenous pack of city, county, and state governments wants to shake down America’s oil and gas producers for their alleged role in what are said to be the damages caused by climate change. Vermont and New York have already passed “climate superfund” laws, while legislatures in at least nine other states, including California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, Minesota, New Jersey, Orgon, Rhode Island, and Virginia are considering similar proposals. Meanwhile, Chicago, San Francisco, Oakland, Boulder County, Colorado, and Multnomah County, Oregon have filed lawsuits citing the costs of protecting urban infrastructure from the effects of climate change.

... Interstate Commerce ... Federal Supremacy ... Defense Production Act

They'll use the same strategy they did to attack Big Tobacco - Mass Lawfare.

I hope they sue that bastard, Old Man Winter, for all the damn potholes and burst pipes he causes.

Look, if the states don't like Big Energy, no problem.  They obviously won't need to continue the importation of natural gas and electricity via Interstate energy infrastructure to their states.

States can reduce the damage of fossil fuels by using less, voluntarily or involuntarily.  If they don't like big mean Texas fracking or dirty Kentucky coal, they surely won't want to get the natural gas or electricity that results from those activities.

They can use wind turbines, solar panels, battery storage, and fart sequestration technology to make up the difference from lost Interstate natural gas and electricity imports.

If they want an economic war among the states, let's give it to them.

People in those states mentioned in the article will wonder why their utility bills are sky high and blame it on Trump's economy.  Far from reality.  They voted in their own stupidity.
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

The libs blame higher prices on "corporate greed".

That's why disconnecting those states from interstate natural gas pipelines and electricity transmission lines is the best option.

No gas, no electricity, nothing to bill for, no opportunity for corporate greed.

Force those states to become energy self-sufficient.  If they want a world without fossil fuels, they start with their own states.

I call this my "Drunken Irish Grandfather Walloping States with his Leather Belt" strategy.  Tough love sanity.
