Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Monday announced that Republicans would seek to pass a reconciliation bill to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for three years.

"It is clear we can't rely on Democrats to fund law enforcement when it comes time to pass fiscal year 2027 funding in September," Thune said on the House floor. "Republicans are going to take up a reconciliation bill to fund border security and immigration enforcement for the next three years."

He further announced that the Budget Committee was preparing a budget resolution to quickly advance the bill and that he wanted to keep the process "tight and focused" to get it through the chamber.

Why couldn't he have "announced" something like this weeks ago...?
