Ron DeSantis Signs Florida Law Requiring Driver’s Licenses to Show Immigration Status Beginning in 2027

A Florida law will require new and renewed driver’s licenses to display an individual’s immigration status beginning in the year 2027.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed the state’s SAVE Act this month focusing on fortifying election integrity in the Sunshine State. One of the highlights is streamlining verification by showing immigration status on every driver’s license and state ID card. These changes will go into effect beginning January 1, 2027, applying to all new and renewed licenses at that point. However, the state already requires an individual to prove their citizenship status when applying for a license.

Currently, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) requires an individual applying for the license to bring a form of primary identification — including a birth certificate, U.S. passport, certificate of naturalization, or certification of citizenship — as well as proof of Social Security — from the card itself to a paycheck — as well as proof of residential address.

Further, Florida already requires personal identification to vote.

It was just stolen

I didn't know I needed it to vote and drove here without it

I left it at work

I forgot it

In Mass, a corrupt Registry of Motor Vehicles employee was selling drivers licenses to illegal Domincan immigrants who used forged Puerto Rican birth certificates and stolen SSN's as identification.

No state ID can be trusted as authentication that someone is a legal US resident or US Citizen.

That's why Real ID will fail.

I can see some of the objections already:

DeSantis and the FL legislature is cracking down.  The laws here were lax as far as ID to vote.  A Sam's Club card qualified.  Many in the State already are ID compliant.  Even after living here for years, awhile back when it came to renewing my license, I had to show proof of domicile, birth certificate marriage certificate and social security number. 

The problems have been with the precincts themselves - liberals precinct captains accepted ID's without proof of citizenship.  So -- hopefully this new legislation will help.  Ultimately the 'precinct captains' control the votes.
