Vice President JD Vance confirmed Friday that the Trump administration is actively exploring legal options tied to alleged immigration fraud involving Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), escalating a long-running controversy into what could become a formal federal investigation.
The comments came during an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson on Friday, where Vance was pressed on prior claims that Omar may have violated immigration laws earlier in her life.
“We actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America,” Vance said during the interview. “We’re trying to look at what the remedies are.”
The vice president added that discussions are already underway within the administration, including conversations with senior officials such as Stephen Miller, to determine what legal pathways may be available.
“That’s the thing that we’re trying to figure out,” Vance continued. “What are the legal remedies now that we know that she’s committed immigration fraud? How do you go after her? How do you investigate her? How do you actually build the case necessary to get some justice for the American people?”
The allegations referenced by Vance stem from longstanding claims—denied by Omar—that she may have married her brother in order to circumvent U.S. immigration laws. While those claims have circulated for years in political circles, no court has formally ruled that such fraud occurred, and Omar has consistently rejected the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.
