Homan: ICE officers will not assist with airport security operations amid TSA staffing shortage

White House border czar Tom Homan said Sunday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers will not be directly involved in security measures at airports, a day before agency officials will begin assisting Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees.

“Wherever we can provide extra security, I don’t see an ICE agent looking at an X-ray machine, because we’re not trained in that,” Homan told host Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“But there are certain parts of security that TSA is doing that we can move them off those jobs, and put them in the specialized jobs to help move those lines,” he added.

President Trump wrote on Truth Social earlier Sunday that ICE officers will “help” TSA agents starting Monday and Homan is in charge of the operation. The longtime immigration official said Sunday that he is “working on the plan” with acting ICE Director Todd Lyons and acting TSA Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill.

“We’ll have a plan by the end of today,” he added. Homan also said that while the plan is a “work in progress,” it is his view that ICE should prioritize airports “where the longest waits are.”

As the shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approaches day 40, a significant percentage of TSA employees continue to call out of work — resulting in lengthy security wait times at airports nationwide.

Some airports, including Philadelphia International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, have even closed security checkpoints amid staffing shortages.

Of course Homan is absolutely correct on the function of ICE agents starting tomorrow.

Well Homan just undercut Trump in the worst possible way.  I can't imagine that will go over well at all with the big boss.

The whole point of Trump sending ICE to the airports and broadcasting it like he did was to trigger Schumer and the Democrats into a panic and thus caving on DHS funding, with prospective images of the masked "Nasty Boys" staking out the security lines and yanking away Illegals and Somali cash mules as they go through.  That probably would not happen, admittedly, but Trump didn't need to say that...instead just throwing the prospect out there and letting it hang.  And the desired effect amongst the Rats indeed happened last night, right on cue.  It was purely psychological trolling.

But now Homan went on TV this morning and said nevermind, ICE will just be in the back rooms doing the paperwork while the TSA remnants are serving the checkpoints.  Kinda like when Bush originally said he was sending the National Guard to the border in 2006 to beef it up, but in reality left the Guardsmen sitting around swimming pools at the local hotels and doing nothing useful---I had a good buddy who was on the deployment to Tucson...he spent way more time in Juarez, Mexico than out at a lone desert outpost, partying with the senoritas bonitas.

Let's stop speculating for 24 hours and see exactly what happens.  Undermining Trump is not Homan's way, I'm sure he and Trump have worked out the details of what ICE's responsibilities at the airports will be.  I doubt they will be in back rooms pushing paper.  It's likely they will be doing pre-screening and riding herd on baggage checks in order to get more TSA Agents on the X-ray scanners and Magnetometers.

Let's see before declaring it a waste of time and resources.

One needs to read carefully:

So... ICE will not take over the TSA role, but instead will help them where they can to reduce the long lines (pre-screening elements?) while Democrats continue to endanger the American public so that they can have their illegal alien army.

We don't have to wait long to see how this will work.  I doubt Schumer and Temu Obama are popping Champagne corks yet, so we shouldn't be handing out crying towels either.

It would be a hoot if ICE picks up some illegal aliens at the airports as an ancillary benefit!

I say all this with the understanding I may be eating crow!  The wildcard would be if Elon Musk can start injecting cash to the TSA workers who are in genuine trouble with things like Mortgages and feeding their families....

So they send the most-non-threatening ICE employees imaginable...those are no field agents but desk jockeys from the HQ staff.  Looks like Director Lyons raided his accounting and personnel cubes and sent them out with cheap khaki vests and custom patches overnighted from Amazon.

They sure do look intimidating...   :rolling:

They are not at the airports to intimidate people.

ICE is at the airports to help process American travelers while Democrats inflict pain and suffering on them and threaten their safety, so that Democrats can keep their illegal alien army.

TSA and the Secret Service are not getting paid, but ICE is. Why can't they temporarily swear in TSA and SS as ICE agents while keeping them in their current assignments, and start paying them?
